Enforcement Directorate has summoned TMC MLA Sudipta Roy for questioning in a money laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities in the Kolkata-based R G Kar Hospital and Medical College, official sources said Thursday. Roy is the president of the West Bengal Medical Council and also holds charge of the R G Kar Patient's Welfare Committee. He has been questioned by the CBI in this case as it is also probing the alleged irregularities. The premises of the MLA from Serampore apart from that of some others, was searched hy the ED on Tuesday. Roy has been asked to appear at the ED office in Kolkata on Thursday for questioning in the case, the sources said.

It issued notice to the state of West Bengal on the accused's bail plea and posted it for hearing after four weeks.

Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited (NTBCL), the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has quashed a massive tax demand of approximately ₹21,000 crore. The listed entity, part of the IL&FS Group, operates the Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) flyover, a critical infrastructure link between the two cities. The tax demand, spanning nine financial years from 2006 to 2015, included ₹10,893 crore in alleged unpaid taxes and the same amount in penalties. The Income Tax department had accused NTBCL of concealing income and failure to submit accurate income details. The Income Tax department issued an assessment order on December 31, 2008, followed by reassessment proceedings. These proceedings sought to disallow amortization of interest on zero-coupon bonds issued by NTBCL and taxed designated returns as income. Additionally, the department classified land provided by NOIDA/DDA on lease as a subsidy and disallowed depreciation on the DND Toll Bridge.

tax collections rose 22.61% to ₹4.36 lakh crore in the first half of the current financial year (April- September 15), signalling a strong corporate performance and robust economy, official data released on Wednesday showed. This includes advance corporate tax of ₹3,31 lakh crore and advance personal tax of ₹1,04 lakh crore. The advanced tax collections in the corresponding period last year stood at ₹3.55 lakh crore. The total advance tax collections for the first quarter (April 1 to June 15) was ₹1.48 lakh crore.

Indian Army on Wednesday sealed a pact with a premier organisation as part of efforts to boost its rescue and survival operations in mountainous terrains. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked with Tiranga Mountain Rescue (TMR) at the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) in the presence of Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. «This understanding marks a pivotal step in advancing the Indian Army's rescue and survival operations in mountainous terrains,» an official readout said. «The MoU stipulates that TMR will collaborate with the Indian Army in conducting customised training programmes for Army instructors, aimed at improving their ability to mentor troops in avalanche rescue and survival skills,» it said.
