Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has revealed its candidate for the upcoming bypoll in the Gandey assembly seat. Kalpana Soren, wife of the incarcerated former chief minister Hemant Soren, will be contesting in the election. The Gandey seat, situated in Giridih district, fell vacant following the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad. Kalpana Soren, a homemaker, boasts educational qualifications with both MTech and MBA degrees. If you’re an employment law wonk, the big news this week is that the Federal Trade Commission has decided to ban the use of non-compete agreements. In doing so, it says it will increase worker earnings by more than $488bn over the next decade.  The ban won’t affect existing agreements signed by “senior executives”, but no new non-competes are to be allowed, and any currently outstanding non-competes with employees earning less than $150k are null and void.  Unsurprisingly, employers are not pleased; lawsuits have already been filed challenging their power to do this.

Saurabh Nanavati, and four others have settled a case of alleged violation of mutual fund and portfolio management services regulations with market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) by paying ₹4.98 crore as settlement amount. Asset Management India, its CEO Saurabh Nanavati and four others on Wednesday settled with markets regulator Sebi a case on alleged non-segregation between the mutual fund activities and portfolio management activities of the company after payment of nearly Rs 5 crore. Tata Elxsi’s net profit declined by 4.5% sequentially at Rs 197 croreore, in the final quarter of FY24.
