India's dependence on Chinese industrial goods like telecom, machinery and electronics, Beijing's share in New Delhi's imports of such goods rose to 30 per cent from 21 per cent in the last 15 years, a report said. According to the report by the economic think tank Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI), the growing trade deficit with China is a cause of concern, and the strategic implications of this dependency are profound, affecting not only economic but also national security dimensions. From 2019 to 2024, India's exports to China have stagnated at around USD 16 billion annually, while imports from China have surged from USD 70.3 billion in 2018-19 to over USD 101 billion in 2023-24, resulting in a cumulative trade deficit exceeding USD 387 billion over five years. The Indian government and industries must evaluate and potentially recalibrate their import strategies, fostering more diversified and resilient supply chains, GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava said.

infrastructure projects, each entailing an investment of Rs 150 crore or above, were hit by cost overrun of more than Rs 5.55 lakh crore during December quarter 2023, an official report stated. The Quarterly Project Implementation Status Report (QPISR) on Central Sector Projects (costing Rs 150 crore and above) for the third quarter of 2023-24, contains detailed information on 1,897 projects. The QPISR is prepared by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Out of 1,897 projects, 448 projects were having cost overrun of Rs 5,55,352.41 crore, which is 65.2 per cent of their sanctioned cost.

UltraTech Cement is expected to report a net profit of Rs 1,962 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2024 which will be an 18% year-on-year jump over the corresponding quarter of the last financial year according to average estimates of three brokerages. Sequentially the profit is expected to go up by 13%. The revenue from operations for the reporting quarter is likely to remain at Rs 20,057 crore according to the average estimates, which will be higher by 8.50% on the year-on-year basis. On the quarter-on-quarter basis, the revenue for the January-March quarter is expected to go up by 21.26%.

Mumbai: Private lender IDFC First Bank reported a 9.8% dip in net profit to ₹724 crore for the fourth quarter ending March 2024 over the corresponding period last year. The Bloomberg poll had estimated a net profit of ₹756 crore in the fourth quarter. The bank's net profits were impacted by a significant 50% increase in provisions for bad loans, which amounted to ₹722 crore in Q4. For FY24, the bank reported a 21% rise to ₹2,957 crore.

RBL Bank on Saturday reported a 30% increase in fourth-quarter net profit to ₹353 crore, boosted by strong loan growth and its efforts to contain bad loans. For the financial year 2023-24, net profit rose 32% to ₹1,168 crore.

The Mumbai-based bank posted a net profit of ₹10,707.5 crore for the quarter ended March 31, compared with the average estimate of ₹10,489 crore by analysts tracked by Bloomberg.
