India’s direct tax collections surge 17.7% in FY 2023-24, exceeding budget estimates
₹19.58 lakh crore. This was also more than the revised and original budget estimates, as per the latest disclosure made by the tax department, as per news agency PTI report. This is because the FY23-24 net collections of income and corporate taxes, constituting the bulk under the head "direct taxes," exceeded the initial budget estimate by ₹1.35 lakh crore (7.40 per cent) and 13,000 crore from the revised estimate.

United States on Friday said it has imposed sanctions on three China-based companies and one from Belarus for allegedly supplying missile-applicable items for Pakistan's ballistic missile programme, including long-range weaponry. The companies are Xi'an Longze Technology Development, Tianjin Creative Source International Trade and Granpect Company Ltd from China and Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant from Belarus. «The Department of State is designating four entities pursuant to Section 1(a)(ii) of Executive Order 13382, which targets proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery,» said state department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Amit Shah, a prominent figure in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), filed his nomination for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency on April 19. According to the affidavit, Shah and his wife own assets totaling Rs 65.67 crore. Notably, this marks a significant increase from the Rs 30.49 crore reported during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, showing a growth of over 100 per cent in the past five years. His movable assets, including cash, bank savings, deposits, gold, silver, and inherited property, amount to Rs 20.23 crore.
