Total Solar Eclipse 2024: ‘Why do my eyes hurt?’ tops Google searches after celestial event
Total Solar Eclipse 2024: As Total Solar Eclipse 2024 darkened the skies cutting across some parts of the United States and Canada, there was an exponential increase in people looking to know "why do my eyes hurt?" and "my eyes hurt" on Google. Although it's widely understood that viewing an eclipse with the naked eye can lead to damage to the retina, commonly referred to as solar retinopathy or retinal blindness, skywatchers may not immediately sense the effects of directly observing a solar eclipse without enough protection. Eye experts have always warned people against looking at a solar eclipse without proper protection as Sun rays can damage eyes.

Silver sparkles as prices touch fresh peak of Rs 82,109/kg
US Federal Reserve are fueling a record-breaking rally in precious metals. The precious metal could gain by another 10-15% from current levels, said experts. Silver contracts, which have risen by more than a tenth in a week, touched a lifetime high of ₹82,109 per kilogram on the MCX on Monday. Both gold and silver trying to breach their multi-year highs indicates that a bull market is in force for precious metals, and historically, silver has outperformed gold in such situations, said Sahil Kapoor, market strategist at DSP Mutual Fund. «Conditions are favorable. A breakout is happening after many years, and if you have already allocated to silver, stay put, and if not, you should allocate and wait,» he said. While the precious metal typically moves in tandem with gold prices, it also takes cues from base metal prices because of its usage across several industries including electronics, batteries and semiconductors. Base metal prices have seen a recent rally following encouraging manufacturing data from China. «Middle East tensions and China's heavy buying drove silver's demand, pushing prices up. Meanwhile Fed's Powell last week hinted at cautious rate cuts, influencing silver's long-term bullish outlook,» said Naveen Mathur, director for commodities and currencies at Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers. The demand for silver is expected to grow 1% globally to 1.2 billion ounces in 2024, while supply is seen rising 3% to 1.02 billion ounces, the Silver Institute said in a report earlier this year.

Delhi L-G VK Saxena complains to MHA against AAP ministers
Delhi lieutenant-governor on Monday red-flagged to the Ministry of Home Affairs the «lack of seriousness» and «insensitivity» of Delhi ministers towards people-centric governance issues. L-G VK Saxena shot off a letter to the home ministry pointing out that AAP ministers — Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot and Atishi — have been refusing to attend meetings called by him on issues relating to health infrastructure and summer action plan. According to L-G Secretariat sources, Saxena had sought meetings with the ministers twice on March 29 and April 2. «An intimation was accordingly sent to Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Atishi Marlena and Saurabh Bharadwaj for a meeting by the Lt Governor on 02.04.2024. However, all the ministers have vide emails declined to attend the said meeting on the specious ground that since the model code of conduct is in force, such a meeting would not be appropriate at this stage,» the letter says adding, «Hon'ble Lt Governor believes that a consultation of this nature was warranted so that routine works of governance are not hampered, in the backdrop of the arrest and detention of the chief minister.»

The persistence of unequal growth will be bad for India
The World Inequality Lab (WIL) recently published a report, Income and Wealth Inequality in India 1922-2023: Rise of the Billionaire Raj. The subtitle is a nod to the name of a 2018 book by James Crabtree, then a Financial Times correspondent and considered an avid India watcher. The book described itself as a journey through India’s new gilded age and had the imprint of a journalist’s keen eye for detail and drama.

Elon Musk hypes robotaxi to rescue Tesla's tumbling stock
Elon Musk announced he'll unveil a Tesla robotaxi in August, it was a clear attempt to arrest a spiral for the once high-flying carmaker. Tesla shares already had been sinking before the company reported anemic quarterly delivery figures last week. Then, Reuters reported the automaker was shelving plans for a cheaper electric vehicle, extending the tailspin. Musk's vague denial didn't do the trick — the stock closed Friday as the worst performer in the S&P 500 this year. So the chief executive officer turned to his tried-and-true playbook: change the narrative by dangling a new product. The shares jumped in late trading at the end of last week and traded up 4.2% at the start of Monday's premarket session.
