Macrotech Developers has recorded its best quarterly performance ever with 40% year-on-year growth in pre-sales at Rs 4,230 crore for the quarter ended March. The performance has helped the company report its best-ever annual pre-sales at Rs 14,520 crore during the financial year 2023-24. With this, the company has met its guidance of 20% growth, Macrotech Developers said in a regulatory filing. The developer’s collection also rose 20% from a year ago to Rs 3,510 crore during the fourth quarter of the financial year. With this, the collections for the year rose to Rs 11,260 crore.

Nifty Bank closed in the green for the third day in a row on Friday, which propelled the index above the 48,500 level in intraday trade. The index pared some gains but outperformed Nifty 50. The Nifty bank rose 430 points to close at 48,493, while Nifty 50 ended flat with a negative bias.

Lok Sabha elections, it appears that the country's youngest eligible voters are displaying a concerning lack of interest in participating in the democratic process. Recent data reveals that fewer than 40% of 18- and 19-year-olds across the nation have registered to vote, with certain states like Bihar, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh recording enrollment rates of less than a quarter, a TOI report stated. According to statistics released by the Election Commission after the announcement of poll dates, only a little over 1.8 crore new voters in the 18- and 19-year-old bracket have been included in the electoral rolls. This figure is considerably lower than the projected population size of this demographic, which stands at just under 4.9 crore. In essence, merely 38% of these first-time voters have successfully registered. Although there is a possibility of this number increasing as various stakeholders intensify their efforts to encourage registration, the current scenario raises questions about the extent to which such initiatives can effectively address the issue. Telangana emerges as a notable exception, with over 8 lakh 18- and 19-year-olds enrolled to vote, constituting approximately 66.7% of its projected population within this age group. Conversely, Bihar, known for its youthful population, reports dismal figures, with only 9.3 lakh enrolled out of a potential 54 lakh (17%). Similar trends are observed in other states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, where enrollment rates remain notably low.

drone attack overnight damaged equipment at energy facilities in Ukraine's southern Odesa region, the national grid company Ukrenergo said on Friday via the Telegram messaging app. Separately, the Ukrainian military said its air defence had shot down four drones used overnight in attacks targeting the region's energy infrastructure. Ukraine's air force said it also shot down nine Russian drones overnight targeting the Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Russia also used two S-300/S-400 missiles and three Iskander-M ballistic missiles in its attack, it said.

Ukraine fired dozens of drones at Russia's southern Rostov region, home to its army headquarters for the military offensive, in the early hours of Friday, Russian officials said. Russia's defence ministry said it downed 53 Ukrainian drones overnight — 44 over the Rostov region — while the governor said a power station was damaged in the attack. Rostov-on-Don, the capital of the region that sits just across the border from Ukraine, is the command headquarters for Russia's military campaign and home to a swathe of Russian military sites.

Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) transaction volumes have gone down after crossing 10 lakh in late-December 2023, Reserve Bank of India Governor T Rabi Sankar said on Friday. The overall number of transactions has touched 2.2 crore since the launch of the CBDC pilot on December 1, 2022, Sankar said, adding that the number of participants in the pilot stands at 50 lakh. «Volumes have not been the same, they have come down,» Sankar said, adding that the target of 10 lakh a day was met earlier on the back of measures such as interoperability with a very popular UPI platform. As per a news report, banks disbursed employee benefits using the digital rupee in December, which helped the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) meet its target of 10 lakh daily transactions.

Jonathan Levin, an economist and Stanford alumnus who led the Stanford Graduate School of Business as dean for the last eight years, was appointed the next president of Stanford University, the Board of Trustees announced on Friday. Levin will assume office effective August 1, 2024. Jerry Yang, BS, MS ’90, chair of the Board of Trustees, thanked the 20-member Presidential Search Committee (PSC) for their work, and said Levin was the unanimous choice of the search committee and of the trustees. Plastic Export Promotion Council (Plexconcil) recently published an in-depth report that thoroughly analyses India's plastic export trends for February 2024. Drawing upon data from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, the study reveals that India reported its highest-ever monthly export of made-up fishing nets during February 2024. The cumulative value of merchandise exports during April 2023 – February 2024 was $395 billion as against $409.1 billion during the same period last year, reflecting a decline of 3.5%. Overview of Overall Plastic Exports In February 2024, India exported plastics worth $997 million, an increase of 14.3% from $872 million in February 2023. The cumulative value of plastics exports during April 2023 – February 2024 was $10,433 million, as against $10,911 million during the same period last year, registering a decline of 4.4%.

Tech giant Apple has laid off 600 employees across its self-driving car and smartwatch screen projects, news agency Bloomberg reported on Friday. Both projects were scrapped earlier this year. According to the report, Apple filed eight separate reports to the state of California to comply with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN program.

Airtel and Reliance Jio, found themselves on a new battlefront — the satellite communication or satcom, a futuristic technology that promises to revolutionise India's telecom sector. Companies such as Reliance Jio’s JV with Luxembourg-based SES; Starlink; Amazon; Bharti-backed OneWeb; and the Tata-Telesat combine are working on creating a constellation of satellites to deliver ‘broadband-from-space’ services in India. India's current telecom market has just two big players, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, but satcom will attract more big players. Since satcom does not require installation of towers on earth, the entry barrier is not as formidable as it is in traditional terrestrial mobile telecom.

NEW DELHI : The Supreme Court has consolidated multiple pleas challenging the 28% GST on online gaming companies, ordering the transfer of 27 writ petitions to be heard together. During a hearing led by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud on Friday, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of 27 writ petitions pending in 11 high courts across the country.
