Will Nykaa's performance tread the Zomato path?
FSN E-Commerce Ventures are expected to witness their next leg of performance riding on margin improvements which will be akin to Zomato, according to estimates by Nuvama. The domestic brokerage reiterated its buy rating on the Nykaa operator while marginally raising the price target to Rs 192 from Rs 189, as suggested earlier. Zomato, which is purely a platform play versus Nykaa, an omni channel retailer, draws similarity in terms of online transacting users remaining the key TAM (Total Addressable Market), Nuvama said while suggesting that their unit economics also have similar drivers.

People don't expect such comments from a senior leader: FM Nirmala Sitharaman on Lalu Yadav's jibe at PM Modi
Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday critcised RJD chief Lalu Prasad's «no family» jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that people do not expect such comments from a senior leader like him. Speaking to reporters in Patna, Sitharaman said there is a need to maintain dignity in politics. «What the PM said is correct, the entire country considers him their family. The entire country is the PM's family. Making such petty statements is not correct and is highly condemnable,» she said. «He (Lalu Prasad) has spent decades in politics and was also a CM of the state. People don't expect such comments from a senior leader like him. It disheartens the people. One has to maintain dignity in politics. The BJP has given a befitting reply to the RJD chief for making such comments against the PM,» she added.

Three people arrested raising “Pakistan zindabad” slogans in Karnataka assembly premises
Bengaluru police arrested three individuals on Monday for allegedly raising “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans inside the Karnataka state secretariat Vidhana Soudha premises, after a Congress leader won the Rajya Sabha election last week. The police statement said the arrests were made based on the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, circumstantial evidence and witness accounts. Three supporters of Congress leader Syed Naseer Hussain had allegedly shouted pro-Pakistan slogans after his victory in the Rajya Sabha elections. Chief minister Siddaramaiah had ordered an investigation by the FSL to check the veracity of the allegations after some Congress leaders had said the visuals were fabricated as people actually were shouting “Naseer Saab Zindabad.” The sloganeering had sparked a row between the Congress and the opposition BJP, with the latter holding demonstrations to protest the pro-Pakistan slogans, calling them a direct reflection of the Siddaramaiah regime’s appeasement politics. BJP MLAs raised “Jai Sri Ram” slogans in the state assembly during their protest, to which Siddaramaiah responded with “Jai Sita Ram.”

Too much regulatory guardrails could impede growth rate: Uday Kotak
Uday Kotak on Tuesday said that too much regulatory guardrails could impede economic growth and halt India's journey towards a developed nation. Regulators should not be too conservative and cautious but must respond fast to «accidents» in the respective sectors, he said while addressing a two-day event organised by National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA). «I feel very very optimistic for India's future but I am also very conscious that...unbridled focus on the opportunity without having the guardrails also runs the risk, and also too much guardrails will not get us there (developed nation),» he said. Observing that the aspiration of the fast growth of 7.5-8 per cent GDP over the next 20-25 years needs significant capacity building, he said, «it also requires a sense of dreaming. It requires a sense of creativity, entrepreneurship, and professionals (need to be) ready to take risks without fear.»

Indian media and entertainment sector to cross ₹3 tn by 2026
₹2.3 trillion in 2023, is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10% to reach ₹3.08 trillion by 2026, according to the annual media and entertainment (M&E) report by Ficci and consulting firm EY. However, the growth of ₹17,300 crore last year was half of the ₹37,100 crore growth that took place in 2022, mainly due to headwinds in advertising during the first half of the year, the report added. Except for television, all M&E segments grew in 2023, but the share of traditional media (television, print, filmed entertainment, live events, out of home, music, radio) stood at 57% of M&E sector revenues, down from 76% in 2019.

Indian firms look to bet big on coal-fired power after long absence
coal-fired power capacity over a decade, four sources familiar with the matter said, ending a six-year drought in significant private involvement in the sector. Adani Power, JSW Group and Essar Power are among the companies that have told India's power ministry they would be keen to expand old plants or develop stalled projects facing financial stress, according to the sources and a government presentation seen by Reuters. The potential investments, which have not been previously reported, could cumulatively cost billions of dollars and demonstrate renewed appetite in an industry seen by many as financially unattractive. But they also threaten to undermine progress made by the world's No.3 greenhouse gas emitter in weaning its economy off carbon.

Service activity eases to 60.6 in February; optimism dips
growth in new orders and output led to service activity easing to 60.6 in February compared with 61.8 in the previous month, according to results of a private survey released Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted HSBC India Services Business remained above the 50 level, which separates expansion from contraction, but a milder growth affected business outlook. “Due to a slowdown in growth in new orders and output, services companies’ outlook for future business activity, while remaining strongly positive, weakened slightly,” said Ines Lam, economist, HSBC.
