asthma cases reported in 2019 were related to prolonged exposure to pollution due to PM2.5 or fine particulate matter, a finding that researchers said provided «sufficient evidence» on the link between air pollution and asthma. The review of 68 studies conducted from 2019-2023 across 22 countries, including South Asian ones, showed that for every 10 micrograms per cubic metre increase in PM2.5, the risk of developing childhood or adult asthma increases by over 21 per cent. The respiratory condition is marked by recurring symptoms of wheezing, coughing and breathlessness and can severely impair quality of life. «We estimate that globally in 2019, almost a third of asthma cases are attributable to long-term PM2.5 exposure, corresponding to 63.5 million existing cases and 11.4 million new cases,» first author Ruijing Ni, from the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, said.

Economic Survey for September and said that inflation expectations in India are softening, indicating reduced inflationary concerns. The report said that both household and business surveys by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) suggest a stable demand environment, despite the impact of price fluctuations in key food items on headline inflation. «The headline inflation rate, influenced as it is by a few food items, may not be the most accurate gauge of underlying demand,» the government said.

Shakti Pumps (India) Ltd (SPIL) has reported a multifold jump in consolidated profit after tax in the quarter ended September to Rs 101.4 crore, on account of a surge in revenues. It had posted Rs 6 crore profit after tax (PAT) in the July-September quarter of the preceding 2023-24 fiscal, the company said in statement issued on Monday. During the second quarter, the company's revenue from operations also rose four-fold to Rs 634.6 crore, from Rs 152.8 crore a year ago.

Ajmera Realty & Infra India Limited on Monday reported a 57 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 35.35 crore in the September quarter. Its net profit stood at Rs 22.53 crore in the year-ago period. Total income rose to Rs 204.12 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 147.59 crore in the corresponding period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing.

Ambuja Cements said in a press release on Monday. «Strong infrastructure demand and ongoing needs from the housing and commercial sectors are anticipated to boost cement demand in H2 FY 2025,» Ambuja Cements' press release said, which was posted with the company's Q2FY25 earnings. The rollout of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban Housing 2.0, which includes an allocation of ₹11 lakh crore is expected to benefit the sector as well, the cement producer said.

Arvind Ltd on Monday reported a 25.44 per cent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 62.77 crore in the second quarter ended September 30, 2024 impacted by higher expenses and a one-time hit due to rise in provision for deferred tax. The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 84.19 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal, Arvind Ltd said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated revenue from operations in the second quarter stood at Rs 2,188.31 crore, as against Rs 1,921.73 crore in the year-ago period, it added.

DLF on Monday rallied 8% to an intraday high of Rs 839.55 on the BSE after reporting a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,381 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2024, versus Rs 623 crore posted in the year-ago period. This was a 122% jump on an year-on-year basis.

Ambuja Cements on Monday reported a standalone net profit of Rs 501 crore in the second quarter ended September 2024, which is a fall of 22% year-on-year (YoY) from Rs 644 crore reported in the previous year quarter. Revenue from operations, meanwhile, increased 6% YoY to Rs 4,213 crore in the July-September 2024 period, compared with Rs 3,970 crore in the last year period.

So, on one side for banks or financials who were more focused on the MFI unsecured side of the business, there we are seeing stress. On the secured side of the business, there does not seem to be any significant stress at this stage. So, ICICI Bank results were quite good. HDFC Bank results were decent. Axis results were pretty good. So, I think the leaders of the banking space have been reporting decent results. Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi to be hospitalized after almost nine weeks of feeling sick, a group campaigning for the activist said Sunday. The Free Narges Coalition said in a statement that Mohammadi must be granted a medical furlough to receive comprehensive treatment for multiple conditions. It said that just transferring her to the hospital will not address the severe health issues caused by months of neglect and deprivation. Mohammadi is being held at Iran's notorious Evin Prison, which houses political prisoners and those with Western ties. She already had been serving a 30-month sentence, to which 15 more months were added in January.
