State Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari said 29 of the 33 districts in the state have been declared as flood-hit on the basis of rainfall recorded between August 31 and September 3. She said Rs three crore each is being released to the flood-hit districts to carry out relief works. The senior official, who held a teleconference with district Collectors, asked them to submit detailed reports on the losses caused by the heavy rain and flood before Monday afternoon.

Ukraine's foreign ministry said on Saturday it was deeply concerned by reports about a possible impending transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia. In a statement emailed to reporters, the ministry said the deepening military co-operation between Tehran and Moscow was a threat to Ukraine, Europe and the Middle East, and called on the international community to increase pressure on Iran and Russia. Puja Khedkar from Indian Administrative Service with immediate effect, reported PTI quoting official sources. Khedkar has been accused of cheating and wrongly availing Other Backward Classes (OBC) and disability quota benefits to ensure her selection in the service. She has denied all allegations. The central government, vide order dated September 6, 2024, discharged Khedkar from the Indian Administrative Service under Rule 12 of IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954, with immediate effect, the sources said. The rules allow the central government to discharge probationers from service if they fail «to pass the re-examination...» or «if the central government is satisfied that the probationer was ineligible for recruitment to the Service or is unsuitable for being a member of the Service», among others.

Delhi court is likely to take cognisance of a supplementary charge sheet against former railway minister Lalu Prasad, his son and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav and eight others in alleged land for jobs scam, on September 13. Special Judge Vishal Gogne on Saturday fixed the matter for the next week after noting that no further clarification was required from the ED on the matter. Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir accepted that it was involved in the 1999 Kargil War on Saturday, reported Pakistani news channel G News Network. Lt Gen (retd) Shahid Aziz, Musharraf, Nawaz Sharif had accepted involvement, but not when they were in office. Munir was speaking at an event on the occasion of Pakistan Army Day. He said that the Pakistani army had given tough fight to its enemies over the years. «Be it 1948, 1965, 1971 or 1999 Kargil Pakistan-India wars, thousands of Shuhadas have sacrificed their life for the country and nation,» he said, adding that sacrifices continued even today. Munir said that the Pakistani army was brave and knew the importance and the cost of independence

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has demanded that the state and central governments complete work on the Barmery refinery-cum-petrochemical project within the specified time frame. Gehlot said there were reports that 79 per cent of the work was completed by May and, in such a situation, it might take another year to complete the remainder. «The state government should coordinate with the central government, HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) and ensure completion of the refinery work within the stipulated time frame,» he said in a post on X on Saturday.

Typhoon Yagi pounded south China's island province of Hainan with heavy rain and gusty winds, local authorities said Saturday. Yagi, the 11th typhoon of this year, made two landfalls in China on Friday, first striking Hainan and later Guangdong province. China has sounded a red alert on Friday and warned of floods in the southern region as Yagi made landfall first in Hainan followed by southern Guangdong province and is expected to hit China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and northern Vietnam. More than one million people have been evacuated in the affected areas with work, classes and businesses suspended and over 100 flights cancelled on Friday, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported.

A few days earlier, the Union Cabinet had approved setting up of an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat by Kaynes Semicon with a Rs. 3,307 crore investment. The capacity of this unit will be 63 lakh chips per day. Now, ET has reported that the Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM) is likely to receive a second budgetary allocation of up to $ 10 billion ISM, a division within the Digital India Corporation tasked with furthering the country’s semiconductor manufacturing, packaging, and design capabilities was first established in 2022 with a budgetary allocation of $10 billion. The government will have to seek fresh funding under the ISM as it has almost exhausted the funds in the first phase which saw approvals of $11 billion, an official has told ET. Super Typhoon Yagi, Asia's most powerful storm this year, churned towards the northern coast of Vietnam on Saturday after tearing through China's southern island province of Hainan and leaving two people reported dead. The lightning, rain and violent winds that hit Hainan also caused 92 to be injured, Chinese state media said on Saturday, citing local authorities. Yagi made landfall in Hainan on Friday, packing maximum sustained winds of 234 kph (145 mph) near its centre, downing trees and flooding roads. Power supply to more than 800,000 homes was cut.
