UP's sops for hybrid vehicles irk EV companies, add to industry's June sob story
electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, especially as it comes hard on the heels of a plunge in June sales. It's also divided the industry, pitting those that are betting on pure electrics such as Tata Motors against those that prefer the hybrid route, like Toyota and Maruti Suzuki. Sales of electric cars in June plunged 13.5% from the year earlier, having suffered a marginal drop in May, triggering fears that the Indian market may be following global trends. After last year's euphoria, domestic sales slumped to 20% growth in the January-June period to 46,845 units. That's down from a 135% surge in the same period last year, prompting Tata Motors and others to recalibrate expectations. UP Govt Holds Meeting with Auto Cos

CFOs, auditors must follow regulations in letter and spirit says RBI
financial institutions must guard against any misadventure or intelligent interpretation of regulations or accounting standards, deputy governor Swaminathan J said in his remarks at the conference of CFOs and statutory auditors organised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Banks must also keep the amount of internal accounts to the minimum as some of these accounts have been found to be used as a conduit for certain fraudulent transactions, Swaminathan who is in charge of financial supervision and inspection departments with the central bank among others said. “We found certain banks having lakhs of such accounts with apparently no valid reason. Some of these accounts were also used as a conduit for certain fraudulent transactions and ever-greening of loan accounts. Internal accounts are high risk in nature on account of its potential for misuse. I therefore request the CFOs to have them rationalised completely, bring them down to the essential minimum and exercise greater control through periodical reconciliation and a proper reporting to the audit committee of the board (ACB), Swaminathan said.

Israel deepens its operation in Gaza City, as pockets of militancy continue to dog the military
Israeli forces deepened an operation in the Gaza Strip's largest city in what the military said was meant to weed out militants, sending thousands of Palestinians fleeing on Monday from an area already ravaged in the early weeks of the nine-month-long war. The incursion into the eastern part of Gaza City expands Israel's engagement in the northern part of the beleaguered territory, an area Israel said it had seized control of months ago yet which has seen pockets of militant resurgence that have scaled back Israeli military gains and drawn forces back into such operations. Israel had ordered evacuations in the area before the raid was launched, the military said. Heavy fighting in the area in the initial weeks of the war all but emptied out Gaza City and its environs, and the Israeli military has prevented most people from returning to their homes there. But several hundred thousands of Palestinians remain in the area, living in the shells of their homes or shelters. The fresh fighting meant new displacement for many residents there.

Can it be fast forwarded just because the media says?» Parameshwara told reporters in response to a question.

Novak Djokovic storms out of BBC interview amid Wimbledon 'disrespect'
Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, created a stir at Wimbledon 2024 when he abruptly walked out of a BBC interview after being repeatedly questioned about his outburst at the Centre Court crowd. The incident occurred following his fourth-round win against Holger Rune, where Djokovic accused the crowd of being disrespectful. The controversy began when Djokovic, visibly upset by the behavior of some spectators, lashed out at the crowd during his on-court interview. He claimed that the fans were booing him, although the presenter suggested they were actually cheering for Rune. Despite the presenter’s attempt to clarify the situation, Djokovic remained adamant about the perceived disrespect. During the subsequent BBC interview, Djokovic's frustration grew as the reporter focused solely on the crowd incident. After answering three questions about the crowd, Djokovic snapped, asking if there were any questions about the match or other topics. When the reporter prepared to ask about his upcoming quarter-final match against Alex de Minaur, Djokovic walked out of the interview, accompanied by his representative.

IT now a tactical buy, not a portfolio bet; 4 other stocks to invest in: Vinit Bolinjkar
Vinit Bolinjkar, Head of Equity Research, Ventura Securities, says he is constructive on Shalby Hospitals and thinks the stock can touch Rs 500 in the next couple of years. The second stock he likes is NTPC and says the NTPC green IPO should lead to a significant re-rating of the stock. He also expects a 50% upside on Senco Gold. He is also gung-ho on Wockhardt where he expects outsized disproportionate returns given that the company is coming out with a new molecule which, once it goes into commercial production, may see the stock double. Now that TCS has kick-started the earning season, what do you make of this quarter that has gone by? We did have some headwinds coming by. There was a heatwave, elections and so lots were happening in this quarter. Give us a generic view and also your specific view on what IT companies are expected to do and how their numbers are expected to look given TCS has come out with a stellar set of numbers. Vinit Bolinjkar: TCS and Tata Elxsi numbers are slightly lower than those reported in the previous quarters, but the growth trajectory that both the companies have guided for is resoundingly strong and the pipeline also seems to be improving and getting better.

NEET UG exam: CJI bench was convinced that paper has been leaked, says petitioner Alakh Pandey
«The CJI bench was convinced of the fact that paper has been leaked...They want to determine to what extent the paper has been leaked. They have asked for the timeline related to; when is the paper prepared? Which committee prepared it? How is a paper prepared in two sets? How is paper circulated to centres? They wanted to see the chain of custody of the paper to determine the time of the paper leak,» Pandey said. «The court wants to determine whether it (paper leak) was a systematic failure or whether it happened due to the malpractices of some individuals,» he added.
