April car sales growth moderates on high base
Car sales in the local market rose 1.3% to 335,629 units last month. Automakers attributed the tepid pace of growth to tapering off of the post-pandemic pent-up demand that sustained for the last two financial years. A high base due to the strong growth in the last two years weighed on the year-on-year comparison, resulting in the tepid pace of growth in April. Though the growth rate moderated in April, it was the fourth consecutive month in CY24 when sales volume in the local market set a new record, as per data from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Rs 5 crore budget may not guarantee luxury housing in NCR, prices scale new highs
Delhi-NCR's red-hot real estate market, even a ₹5 crore budget may not guarantee a home in a brand-new project of a reputed developer in a prime locality. With homes priced at ₹6 crore and above getting sold out within hours of launch, developers are not keen on launching smaller sized apartments, forcing end users to wait for the current uptick in the market to stabilise. The trend is also worrying industry experts as it is giving rise to speculative buying which might eventually cause a bubble in the property market. «In the last 18 months, prices have almost doubled in the majority of the micro-markets in NCR and developers are also not launching smaller sized apartments. Both the factors have taken away the opportunity for middle class buyers to own a home in the current situation. While the per sq ft prices may not come down, developers may have to reduce size to offer something in below ₹5 crore category,» said an industry expert.

MHA warns against cybercriminals posing as police officials
cyber criminals posing as police or other law enforcement agencies. The ministry said this is an organised online economic crime operated by cross-border crime syndicates. Across the country, several victims have lost large amounts of money to such criminals, it said. «A large number of complaints are being reported on National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) regarding intimidation, blackmail, extortion and 'digital arrests' by cyber criminals posing as police authorities, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Narcotics Department, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Enforcement Directorate and other law enforcement agencies,» the MHA pointed out in its statement. Elaborating on the modus operandi of these fraudsters, the ministry claimed that they typically call a potential victim and inform that he or she has sent or is the intended recipient of a parcel, which contains illegal goods, drugs, fake passports, or any other contraband item. Sometimes, they also inform that a near or dear one of the victims has been found to be involved in a crime or an accident and is in their custody. The fraudsters will then demand money to compromise the 'case', the ministry elaborated.

Siemens to demerge and list its energy business
Energy, railways, data centres may drive Siemens’ growth Earlier, ABB India Ltd had structured the demerger of its power transmission business similarly, mirroring the shareholding of investors in the new entity before selling its stake to Hitachi. "Demerging the company and mirroring the shareholding of minority investors is a much cleaner way to do this transaction," said Shriram Subramanian, the managing director of proxy advisory firm InGovern. Siemens Ltd has earlier faced shareholder ire in India when the company proposed to sell its low-voltage motors and geared motors to group company Siemens Large Drives India Private Limited.
