AIMIM chief Owaisi flays NCERT over textbook revisions
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said children should not grow up «glorifying criminal acts» in reference to Babri Masjid demolition being tweaked in NCERT textbooks. In a post on 'X', the Hyderabad MP said India's children should know that the Supreme Court called the demolition of Babri Masjid an «egregious criminal act». «The NCERT has decided to replace Babri Masjid with the words „three domed structure.“ It has also decided to call the Ayodhya judgement an example of „consensus.“ India's children should know that the Supreme Court called the demolition of Babri Masjid an egregious criminal act,» Owaisi said. The AIMIM chief further said India's children should know that a functioning masjid was «desecrated» in 1949 and then demolished by a mob in 1992. «They should not grow up glorifying criminal acts,» he said.

Fund Manager Talk | Rally in rail, defence stocks at execution risk: Krishnan VR
Extended valuations in some sectors like railways, defence, renewables and other capex driven plays could be at risk especially if any delay in execution and resultant earnings disappointments, says Krishnan VR, Chief of Quantitative Research team at Marcellus Investment Managers. Edited excerpts from a chat: Take us through the performance of MeritorQ PMS in May. What worked? The portfolio was up 1.7% in May compared to 0.8% for the benchmark BSE 500 total return index. Because many portfolio companies reported their fourth quarter (and full year) results last month, the performance was partly driven by positive earnings surprises. Performance was fairly broad-based with roughly half of the portfolio stocks outperforming the benchmark. Our analysis also shows that MeritorQ’s strategy of buying undervalued yet fundamentally strong companies, typically delivers positive excess returns around earnings dates, because the relative mispricing has higher chance of correcting as new positive information is released at earnings announcement.

Building up a stake in HDFC Bank could bring a windfall
Investors looking for safer bets on Dalal Street could consider HDFC Bank but they would be better off putting money in the stock in installments over the next few months. This is because the stock, despite cheaper valuations compared to its historical levels, could linger at these levels in the absence of visible triggers, said analysts. «Investors looking for quality and safety of margin when markets are at all-time highs could park funds in the stock as the long-term outlook is bullish for the stock,» said Rajesh Palviya, senior vice president research — technical & derivatives, Axis Securities.

On the way: Production of Bitumen using biomass
bio-bitumen from biomass or agricultural waste, a move that would help reduce imports of the material used for asphalting of roads while also addressing the persistent issue of stubble burning. India currently imports about half of its annual requirement of bitumen and the target is to replace imports with bio-bitumen over the next 10 years, a senior government official told ET. «Based on the success of the pilot study, we hope to kick-start production of bio-bitumen on a large scale by the end of 2025,» the official added. The Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) will soon undertake a pilot study with the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun on a 1-km road stretch which will be built using bio-bitumen. If successful, the technology will be commercialised and transferred to a private entity or public sector enterprises for large-scale production of bio-bitumen, to be used in the construction of national highways.
