What would happen once we steered clear of sugar?
sugar consumption. The harmful link between disease and dietary sugar was recently outlined in a comprehensive assessment of published studies. Recognising this link between widely consumed food and disease is essential in marshalling forces to change harmful outcomes. These include coronary heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, tooth decay and some cancers. For over a decade, my research has focused on the mechanisms by which fructose intake plays into disease. A growing number of African countries have joined the worldwide efforts to reduce sugar intake. For instance, in an attempt to address obesity, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases, South Africa introduced a tax on sugar-sweetened drinks in 2018.

India PC market to double in 5 years if economy target met: HP's Dasgupta
NEW DELHI : New Delhi: India’s personal computers (PC) market of desktops and laptops, which experienced a lull last year due to a post-pandemic sales decline, could double in the next five years if the country's economic targets are met, said Ipsita Dasgupta, senior vice-president and managing director of HP India. Speaking about a dip in demand for PCs and the way forward for the upcoming year, Dasgupta said, “The consumer market has been a bit up-and-down. But nobody discards their PCs, so the comeback on demand doesn't concern me.

Less chance of market repeating FY24 returns this year, says Krishnan VR of Marcellus
Krishnan V R, Chief of Quantitative Research team at Marcellus, believes there is less chance of the market repeating the roughly 29% returns achieved last year. For the broader markets as well, he doesn't expect the FY24 performance to repeat this year given small and mid-cap indexes were roughly up around 60% last year, far outstripping the largecaps. He further noted that new investors who have entered markets since COVID have mostly seen the market trend in one direction which can engender false confidence of equity being a low-risk, high-return asset class.

RBI MPC meeting begins today: Rate pause may continue on GDP growth, inflation; Key indicators to watch
Also Read: RBI policy meet: SBI says there could be no rate cut before Q3FY25; here's why According to a majority of analysts and economists on D-Street, the RBI would keep its key repo rate unchanged at 6.50 per cent at the conclusion of the April 3-5 MPC meeting, continuing its stance of ‘withdrawal of accommodation’. However, the recent uptick in crude oil prices over geopolitical conflicts is likely to keep the MPC's focus on inflation and managing the impact of global headwinds, despite record-high economic growth in the previous quarter. "The MPC is unlikely to act on policy rates on April 5th.
