Many Canadians end up in ER before being diagnosed with cancer: study
cancer patients in Canada seek emergency help before their diagnosis, with more than half being hospitalized following an ER visit, according to new research.A study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) on Monday showed that more than a third of cancer patients in Ontario had visited an emergency department in the three months prior to their cancer diagnosis.“This study highlights how frequently patients with cancer are using the emergency department during the diagnostic phase of their cancer journey,” said Dr. Keerat Grewal, study co-author and an emergency medicine physician at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.“It’s almost one in three patients who are using the emergency department prior to their diagnosis and there are certain patient populations who are more likely to use the emergency department,” she told Global News in an interview. The study included more than 650,000 patients who were first diagnosed with cancer between 2014 and 2021 in Ontario.Even though the data was limited to Ontario, Grewal said it’s a trend that’s being seen across Canada. The CMAJ study showed that among the patients with emergency department visits 90 days before a cancer diagnosis, 64 per cent visited an ER once, 23 per cent visited twice and 13 per cent had three or more visits.

Days of everything going up is gone; are we even in a bull run? Samir Arora questions
Samir Arora, Founder, Helios Capital, questions what is a bull run? If one can make 12-15%, is that a bull run or is it a normal run? Because bull run normally means we are growing more than the earnings and getting re-rated. Those days are over for now. We are no longer in a situation where if the earning growth is 12%, the market will go up 18% or 20% like it has done in the past. That kind of bull run, it is not. Since nothing is happening in the market, let us talk about things like cricket which are better than this boring market. Samir Arora: Losing 3-0 in cricket to New Zealand, makes it look worse than what is happening in the market. Our market does not stand out and moving away from here, we will end up talking about something even worse.

Regulate AI use not the technology
sectoral approach to AI regulation, rather than a one-size-fits-all law, are growing louder. Jensen Huang, CEO of AI chip giant Nvidia, said at ET Conversations in Mumbai recently, “We should regulate AI in the context of every application. When you use AI as an accountant, that accountant should be regulated. When you use AI as a lawyer, that lawyer should be regulated. When you use AI as a doctor, that doctor should be regulated.” To be sure, AI is already subject to the country’s existing provisions on data privacy, cybersecurity and copyright laws. Industry leaders say the need therefore is to plug gaps or clarify how existing regulations would apply to AI in specific ways.

NFRA) will likely deliberate on the revision of all the 35 standards on auditing (SA)-including the SA600 for which it has issued draft norms-and the issues that have sparked its tussle with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in its next board meeting on November 11 and 12, people aware of the development said. NFRA will also seek to review the standards on quality management (SQMs) of audit firms and 16 «consequential» changes in the audit standards, already floated by the ICAI on October 14. The meeting of the 12-member NFRA board is expected to be a stormy affair, as it has three representatives from the ICAI who would push for a pause in the upgrade of the SA600 and also assert the institute's right to issue the SQMs, one of the people told ET.

Congress of making attempts to snatch reservations meant for tribals and hand them over to its «vote bank». Addressing an election rally in Chaibasa in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, the PM said he worships those who have been rejected by the others. «Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar has ensured the provision of reservation to protect tribal rights but Nehru-ji had opposed it. The Gandhi family opposed reservation till they were in control of power post-Nehru. Now once again they have openly announced that they will scrap reservations for tribals. They will snatch tribal reservations and hand it over to their vote bank,» he said. «They (Congress) have devised one more strategy. They are declaring schools, colleges and universities as minority institutions. By this, the reservation of tribals, Dalits and backward is being stopped. Can Milei defuse Argentina's economic time bomb?
Argentina's libertarian president, Javier Milei, a political outsider who won election last year brandishing a chainsaw as a blunt symbol of his plans to cut spending, is defying long odds to right the embattled economy and keeping a lid on voter anger. After years of economic crises, debt defaults, soaring inflation and currency crashes, Milei's success is giving an adrenaline shot to long-moribund local bonds and sparking a wild rally in the markets some 11 months into his administration. The wild-haired economist, a poster child for the global far right and neoliberalism, has scored key economic wins in recent months, helping pull the country's debt out of distressed territory for the first time in half a decade.
