markets Experts PAM travelers Schools Courts rights Delhi court refuses to cancel lookout circular against ATS Infrastructure's promotor
Delhi court has refused to cancel a lookout circular (LOC) against real estate company ATS Infrastructure Limited's promotor Geetamber Anand and his wife Poonam Anand in connection with multiple FIRs lodged against the builder. The FIRs include those lodged by the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police for allegedly defrauding homebuyers, and another a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate. Judicial Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal, in an order passed on September 13, said the accused had appeared to join the investigation as and when required, however, «the LOC appeared to be a safeguard to ensure that judicial process is not frustrated in any manner». «Even if the applicants are directed to obtain prior permission of the court before travelling abroad, the accused could always travel without obtaining any such permission and there would be no way for the court to enforce a condition of that nature,» he said.

United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim and the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples José Francisco Cali Tzay in a joint statement called upon the Interim Government of Bangladesh “to take immediate action to protect the Jumma Peoples from violent and indiscriminate attacks, conduct an impartial commission of enquiry into allegations of violence and prosecute perpetrators to end the culture of impunity” regarding recent human rights violations committed in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs) in September 2024. In their joint statement, the UN experts stated, “The recent violence is set against a backdrop of broader discrimination and marginalization of the Indigenous Jumma Peoples, who for decades have been subjected to forced evictions and heightened militarization of the region”. Most importantly, the UN experts called on “social media companies to take all relevant steps to prevent their platforms from disseminating hate speech and misinformation regarding the Indigenous Jumma Peoples.”

Eldos Mathew Punnoose exercised India's right of reply against Pakistan at the Joint General Debate on decolonization at the United Nations on Monday. Punnoose condemned Pakistan's «unsubstantiated allegations» regarding the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He emphasised the need for Pakistan to cease its ongoing human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Targeting Pakistan, he said, «Unsubstantiated allegations by Pakistan largely pertain to the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. India would like to reiterate that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are, were and will be an integral and inalienable part of India. University of Toronto professor and Nobel Prize winner, often referred to as the “Godfather of AI,” is warning that the technology could develop and “make us irrelevant” without significant research into how to control it.Geoffrey Hinton, a British-Canadian professor at the University of Toronto, won the Nobel Prize in physics at the beginning of the month along with Princeton University researcher John Hopfield for work on machine learning and artificial neural networks.Speaking to Global News in a rare interview this week after winning the prestigious international award, Hinton pointed to the positives AI can bring but warned its rapid evolution could be existentially problematic.“I’m most concerned about the long-term dangers because those are the ones that people think are maybe just science fiction,” he said.“So, the biggest long-term danger is that, once these artificial intelligences get smarter than we are, they will take control –they’ll make us irrelevant.

markets Reddit social Schools rights Interviews 8 reasons why big companies may reject you in an interview. #2 and #7 are weird, say netizens
hiring managers cite for turning down candidates, revealing how subjective bias can often cloud recruitment decisions. The Reddit post explained that the user’s cousin, a hiring manager at a large company, disclosed some peculiar factors influencing rejection. These factors, which go beyond the candidate's skills or experience, range from appearance to social behavior. One reason mentioned was being “overly confident,” while another claimed that candidates who were “too attractive” could be rejected for potentially being a distraction in the workplace. Additional reasons on the list included inappropriate interview attire, projecting desperation, smiling too much, and using excessive filler words. Even details like weak handshakes or failing to ask the right questions during interviews were cited as grounds for rejection. Interestingly, the reasons seemed more focused on subjective impressions than measurable competence.

Kunal Kothari, Research Analyst, Centrum Broking, says in the last two weeks, there have been a good turnaround in the trend and prices have moved up by around Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 per tonne. So, the stimulus that was announced in China is flowing very positively for the metal sector. On the back of the positive commentary that has come in from China, do you expect any kind of an uptick in prices because we were expecting some positive boost to come in when it comes to the real estate space and the manufacturing sector, but nothing meaningful had come in from China. Post this announcement, are you expecting an uptick in the metal prices? Kunal Kothari: Yes, of course, on the international front, we have already seen a good uptick in the steel prices. So, on a month-on-month basis, it has already gone up 15% from the bottom, that we saw last month. Similarly, a positive trend is continuing in India as well. In the last two weeks, we have seen a good turnaround in the trend and prices have actually moved up by around Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 per tonne. So, the stimulus which has been announced in China is actually flowing very positively for the metal sector.
