markets Analysis Research wellness Trade rights Headlines Prefer largecaps now but one can be stock-specific in small and midcaps: Shibani Sircar Kurian
Shibani Sircar Kurian, Senior EVP, Sr. Fund Manager & Head -Equity Research, Kotak AMC, says that a considerable number of stocks are trading almost 50% lower than their 52-week high. So, some degree of valuation comfort is coming in. We are approaching this market by looking at stocks with earning visibility. Largecaps continue to offer better risk-reward as compared to mid and smallcaps as a pack. However, within mid and smallcaps, there are definite points of opportunity and we would use these corrections to look at these particular segments and stock in terms of allocation. Help us with your take on the markets because some are calling out a near-term bottom in place and also trying to look out for some more opportunities. We saw a bit of a rebound on Wednesday. What is your reading? Shibani Sircar Kurian: Since December of last year, the volatility has been on the back of global as well as domestic factors and some of these uncertainties still remain. However, what we must also understand is that when we look at markets, the Nifty itself has corrected almost 13-14% from its highs. Similarly, the midcap and smallcap indices have seen a greater correction. More importantly, at a stock level, the correction has been even steeper than what the headline indices seem to suggest.

markets Analysis trends Trade Experts isolate rights Correction alone not enough, stocks must reach right value: Sanjeev Prasad
Market corrections alone do not create investment opportunities- what matters is whether stocks have corrected to their fair value, says Sanjeev Prasad of Kotak Institutional Equities. He pointed out that despite sharp price declines, many stocks, particularly in the consumer staples sector and speculative "narrative stocks," remain overvalued. Meanwhile, he identified select banking stocks as one of the few areas where investors can still find value. «Just because the stock has corrected does not mean anything in isolation. Has it corrected to the right level in terms of value? That is the question to ask,» he asserted.

markets Career trends RAI innovations rights International Wealthy heirs losing their edge? How to revive their entrepreneurial spirit
entrepreneurship and innovation in family businesses and career choices. Next gen is apparently adopting an investor mindset, focusing on the family office and wealth preservation. This suggests heirs lack entrepreneurial ability. While this trend surely exists, understanding its root cause is key. Rather than viewing this shift as a lack of ambition or drive, the environment in which next gen is raised should be examined. Entrepreneurial spirit is not just inherited. Many times, it's cultivated. The mindset required to build and grow businesses does not emerge overnight. It develops through exposure, experience and a strong sense of purpose. Responsibility of grooming, nurturing and curating the entrepreneurial drive in next gen lies with old gen.

markets Provident security Death rights Relationships Are men defenceless against domestic violence laws? What SC says about men's rights in these cases
domestic violence and women can be the perpetrators. There are no existing laws that protect men under the purview of domestic violence. Recognising that a person is being abused is extremely difficult, as a lot of domestic abuse takes place behind closed doors. The four main reasons for the underreporting of domestic violence cases against Indian men are general stereotypes against males, fear of fake cases, societal and family pressure, and denial. The social, cultural, and emotional barriers in society prevent us from recognising the victimisation of men by women.

markets Extreme Analysis wellness Trade Cycling rights Sandeep Tandon bullish on domestic consumption and infra stocks despite market headwinds
«What we are looking at, when we said in July 2024, the complacency was high, we were at extreme inflection. Maybe September, October when India liquidity peaked out, that was the extreme inflection end,» says Sandeep Tandon, CIO, Quant MF. So, let us come back to India since you said that the time has come to nibble in right now. Purely at an index level and since you do track technicals as well, we have hit the lowest RSI since March 2020 already, we are at an eight-month low. What is the screen telling you? Do you think we are at the end of the pain at an index level per se? Sandeep Tandon: To be candid with you, I am not a great chartist or technical technician in that sense. I am a good observer and we are predominantly a behaviour house. So, we look at more from an inflection point rather than say looking at the breakout or breakdown because that may not give you a correct perspective or we may not have that ability to read up to that extent.
