
Sensex rises 300 points, Nifty above 22,400; auto, financial stocks lead
Sensex and Nifty, opened higher for the second consecutive session on Thursday, driven by gains in auto, financial, and metal stocks. The rally followed US President Donald Trump's temporary tariff reprieve on automobile imports from Mexico and Canada.
The BSE Sensex climbed 299 points (0.41%) to 74,032, while the Nifty50 advanced 99 points (0.44%) to 22,436 around 9:20 am.
U.S. President Donald Trump is open to considering additional products for tariff exemptions, which took effect on Tuesday, the White House said.
Asian stocks gained in early trade on hopes that Trump might roll back some tariff measures, with the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index rising 1%.
From the Sensex pack, Asian Paints, Reliance Industries, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Zomato, and M&M were the top gainers, rising up to 2.2%. Meanwhile, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, UltraTech Cement, and L&T opened lower.
