The red-ball event featured four teams — India A, India B, India C, India D. India A beat India C to win the competition earlier this month. Usually, six teams from as many zones — central, east, west, north, south and north east — take part in the tournament, providing more opportunities to the players from their respective zones. «The state units felt the format used this season did not give a fair representation to the players from their respective zones. The traditional zonal format gives players more opportunities zone wise and that is what was conveyed in the AGM today,» a state unit official told PTI after the BCCI AGM in Bengaluru.

Congress is looking to go all out to wrest power from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana, party leader Rahul Gandhi will be campaigning in the state over the next few days, covering several districts, in what is likely to take the shape of a «yatra». This will be the second leg of his campaigning in Haryana for the October 5 Assembly polls. Gandhi addressed poll rallies at Assandh in Karnal and Barwala in Hisar on Thursday. Calcutta High Court has upheld a Rs 780 crore arbitration award in favour of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd in a dispute with West Bengal-based Damodar Valley Corporation, the Anil Ambani group firm said in a stock exchange filing. More than a decade back, Reliance Infrastructure had won a contract to set up a 1,200 MW thermal power plant in Purulia in West Bengal for Rs 3,750 crore. The project was delayed due to disputes and other reasons, leading to DVC seeking damages from Reliance Infrastructure. Reliance Infrastructure, however, challenged this, and an arbitration tribunal in 2019 ruled in favour of the company and directed DVC to pay Rs 896 crore to the company. DVC challenged the order of the arbitral tribunal in the Calcutta High Court, which was dismissed by the court.

CRPF personnel, including an officer, were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Sunday, officials said. The incident occurred in the Tarrem police station area around 7 am when a squad of the Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF's) 153 battalion was out on a de-mining exercise, a police official said. The squad belonged to the Chinnagelur CRPF camp in the area.

Bihar government has sounded an alert for floods in northern, southern and central parts of the state following heavy discharge of water from Birpur and Valmikinagar barrages on Sunday, officials said. The embankment of the Bagmati river in Madhkaul village in Sitamarhi district broke on Sunday, which is being repaired, they said. «Due to this incident, villagers have been evacuated to safer places and the repair work is on...No casualty has been reported so far,» Richie Pandey, District Magistrate (DM), Sitamathi, told reporters. Due to heavy discharge of water from Birpur barrage, seepage was also reported from the Kosi Eastern embankment near Gopalpur on Saturday night, which was repaired by the engineers of the Water Resources Department (WRD).

Cloudflare has denied any role in hosting two websites run by a hacker offering for sale stolen personal data and medical records of customers of top Indian insurer Star Health. The statement comes after the company was made party to an Indian lawsuit filed by Star Health last week, in which the insurer alleged that Cloudflare hosted the websites in question. «Cloudflare is not the host for the domains in question,» the firm told Reuters, adding that it works as a pass-through service situated between a website host and an end-user, which is why one may see a Cloudflare IP address.

Artificial intelligence is a technology that holds potential to transform human life in profound ways, much like the discovery of fire, but it also poses significant risks if mishandled, said Stefania Giannini, UNESCO's Assistant Director General for Education. In an interview with PTI from Paris, Giannini, who is also the former Minister of Education in Italy, said each technological revolution has had broad social and educational implications, radically changing the way we live and how we learn. She flagged that the digital divide in countries is still very much deep and the new technology, if not driven and supported by the appropriate investments, will widen this divide.

India is taking steps to address mental health issues at workplaces, a majority of employees believe companies could do more to improve their overall well-being, a survey report said on Saturday. Over 79 % of those participated in the survey opined their organisations could do more to address mental health issues and well-being, according to the report by HR services and workforce solutions provider Genius Consultants. «We must recognise that employee well-being is not just a trend, but a crucial aspect of organizational success. The data reveals that a significant number of employees are grappling with anxiety and feeling overwhelmed in their work environments. Companies need to take proactive steps to foster a supportive atmosphere that prioritises mental health and work-life balance,» Genius Consultants Chairman and Managing Director R P Yadav said.

Sanjay Raut on Sunday alleged some Enforcement Directorate officials were extorting huge sums of money from people in connivance with BJP leaders and asserted these illegalities will be exposed when his party comes to power. Speaking to reporters, Raut further alleged Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis knows about those indulging in such illegalities. «One Jitu Navlani, who was employed as an agent of the ED, was involved in extorting money. Our MVA government pursued legal action against him. It is believed he had the support of both the ED and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis,» Raut alleged. Fadnavis shut down the special investigation team formed by the MVA government to probe this matter after he took over as state home minister (in the Eknath Shinde government in June 2022), Raut claimed.

Reserve Bank of India’s former governor Raghuram Rajan said that India was creating enough jobs as reflected by the number of applicants for vacant posts in some states with 7 per cent economic growth. Rajan suggested that the focus must be on promoting labour-intensive industries to generate employment. He further said that some Indians at the upper-level are comfortable and have high incomes, but consumption growth from the lower half of the country has not recovered to pre-pandemic levels. «That is the unfortunate part...You would think with 7 per cent growth, we would be creating a lot of jobs. But if you look at our manufacturing growth, it is more capital intensive,» he told PTI.
