markets Universities performer social medicines Schools Dangerous social media trend among youth - chroming; what it is and what you need to know
chroming. Specialists elucidate this pattern. The new huffing for the younger generation is called chroming. Per Dr. Anthony Pizon, an emergency medicine professor and chief of the medical toxicology division at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, the dangerous practice is a means of getting high via inhaling hydrocarbons through the misuse of a variety of legal products, including permanent markers, aerosol deodorant, nail polish, metallic paint, computer duster, carburetor cleaner, paint thinners, gasoline, and hair spray. According to Pizon, the name originates from the remnant of chrome or metallic paint that is left on one's face after breathing in metallic paints applied to a cloth. According to Dr. Betty Choi, a pediatrician and author of ‘Human Body Learning Lab: Take An Inside Tour of How Your Anatomy Works,’ common types of chroming entail breathing via the nose or mouth straight from the container or from a cloth or plastic bag soaked with the desired substance.

markets Manufacturing CEO trends Schools International Pharmaceuticals The CEO search challenge: Why finding top executives is taking longer than ever
It now often takes 9-12 months to fill a vacant CEO or CXO position, especially when the search is for seasoned professionals in specialised areas such as renewables, semiconductors, chemicals, hightech manufacturing, automotive and electric vehicles, pharmaceuticals and hardcore product engineering, they said. Usually, a senior executive search used to be closed in 3-4 months in times when the demand-supply mismatch was not so acute as it has been in the last one year. There is an increasing trend among senior professionals to have exploratory chats. Some may also not accept the offer made at the very last minute. It is all a result of a leadership market where demand for talent — especially in some of the newer areas — far out surpasses supply,” said the head of HR at a large industrial company, who did not wish to be named. This is one of the reasons why companies are increasingly building a leadership pipeline nternally, the HR head said. The internal candidate in such cases is given preference over an external executive even if the former is only 60% ready to take charge. But in case of specialised roles, often there is no option but to look for professionals outside.

markets Citi Photos country reports Schools Wuhan is in the news again after the COVID-19 outbreak; this time a Chinese attack submarine sank at a shipyard in the city
Wuhan shipyard, one of China's most recent nuclear-powered assault submarines sank, a US official confirmed, as per reports by Business Insider. The Chinese submarine, which was recorded in the Wuchang shipyard in Wuhan in late May, is believed to be the newest Zhou-class ship. However, it sank at some point after that. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the occurrence. Big, floating cranes were close to the pier in June, according to satellite photos taken by Planet Labs after it sank. It's thought that China has been trying to recover the ship. It was the first submarine of its type to sink. Thomas Shugart, a retired US submarine officer and adjunct senior scholar at the Center for American Security think tank, initially shared pictures of cranes gathered around an object in the water on X in July, near the location where the new submarine had previously been. He also mentioned the oil containment boom and conjectured that odd things were going on. Shugart posted online satellite photos from July 5 that revealed the cranes had moved, presumably completing the presumed salvage operation.

markets UPS Food community inclusion Schools What overcooked gibberish is this'chef's kiss'?!
Cambridge Dictionary for going too far with wordcrime by legitimising gibberish. The inclusion of 'chef's kiss' among the new entries of 2024 really takes the cake as the most nonsensical addition yet. Someone has to draw the line at the gimmicks churned out year after year by the self-appointed guardians of the English language. Now, you might accuse me of reading an idiom too literally. But it's not that. 'Chef's kiss' is neither clever nor particularly evocative. It's no 'rat's arse', a phrase I'm rather fond of. For the uninitiated who missed the news in July, 'chef's kiss' refers to a visual representation of a chef holding out his fingers as if to kiss them, indicating something that meets his approval — like something that's 'finger-lickin' good' of the 'Mama mia!' kind. How does it capture the zeitgeist of evolving language when it lacks recall — unlike terms such as 'namaste' or 'thumbs up,' which are represented as emojis on phones? Those terms resonate as visual communications from daily life.

markets Man Fighting film stars Schools Sporting A six-pack on Ganesh is absolutely cool
Ganesh Chaturthi when I noticed not so much our favourite pachyder-man sporting a washboard stomach instead of his standard potbelly, but the loud negative response from many quarters to this anatomical metamorphosis. Outraged by this well-toned Ganesh, many went about complaining how such a depiction of the Great Roly-Polyglot was emblematic of the aggression and belligerence that New India/New Hindu India extols. As if having a hot bod a la Brad Pitt in Fight Club is synonymous with wanting to pick a fight. Some, including card-carrying, curd-eating atheists, even quoted the Mudgala Purana — where the deity is described in his Lambodara (Potbellied) and Mahodara (Great Bellied) forms — to underline the travesty. For them, this was a gross misrepresentation that smacked of reverse body-shaming.
