Residential real estate at a 15-yr high; commercial may see best ever year: Anuj Puri
«I think after a very-very long time I have discovered that the developers have been extremely mindful of bringing in more cash flows and deleveraging their position rather than continuously increasing the prices and somewhere hurt the sort of sales of their residential,» says Anuj Puri, Chairman, ANAROCK Group. Let us just get in a sense as to what you are seeing when it comes to the trend for housing prices in the Indian cities. Clearly, it seems that it has been on a rise, but at a time when we are looking at inflation moderating, how are you looking at the correlation between these two factors and what is the outlook when it comes to residential in particular? Anuj Puri: The residential market continues to surprise us. It is at a 15-year high and it does continue to remain very strong. The good thing is that we are not seeing abnormal price rise within the residential real estate market. And I think after a very-very long time I have discovered that the developers have been extremely mindful of bringing in more cash flows and deleveraging their position rather than continuously increasing the prices and somewhere hurt the sort of sales of their residential.

Exide has surged 80% but still not overvalued? Sudip Bandyopadhyay explains why
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Group Chairman, Inditrade Capital, says fertilizers and agrochemicals is one sector where they have become bullish. He says last week's excitement was based on the fact that some GST concession was expected and that is, to an extent, unfounded. He does not think the GST Council has yet started deliberating on that at all. So, it will take a lot of time. Amara Raja has doubled this year already. Exide is up 80% and there are still buyers.

They found an increased risk of dying for sedentary non-coffee drinkers, a risk not observed among those who drink coffee.

3 top stock recommendations from CA Rudramurthy BV
«I would definitely advocate one to move into safe bets as well as defensive sector. It can be in IT or one can even look at FMCG, one can even have positions in pharma, so I will definitely advocate at current level. Definitely one has to be careful. You have to move into defensive sector,» says CA Rudramurthy BV, MD, Vachana Investments. Yes, the divergent moves are coming in for the broader markets, but you have Nifty Bank charting new territory altogether 52,000. CA Rudramurthy BV: See, for me, both Nifty and Bank Nifty now is consolidating closer to the all-time highs only and whatever clues we get now from the result season as well as budget will hold the key. I feel at current level, one has to have a wait and watch kind of approach. You have to be very-very sector specific and stock specific. I would definitely advocate one to move into safe bets as well as defensive sector. It can be in IT or one can even look at FMCG, one can even have positions in pharma, so I will definitely advocate at current level. Definitely one has to be careful. You have to move into defensive sector. Wait for result season to pan out. Let us see how even budget comes out and then take aggressive position. So, for sure, this is not the time to take aggressive position, not to be in high beta and one has to have reduced leverage and risk management will hold the key if you are a very short-term trader.

Is it a good time to play the urban consumption theme? Samit Vartak answers
«Speciality chemical is a very different ball game. I mean, it has been struggling and there are intermittent signs of it reviving, but still it is very difficult as China is dumping and the competition across the globe is huge,» says Samit Vartak, SageOne Investment Advisors. For a lot of sectors we are at the peak of optimism, they are baking in the best in terms of order inflows, etc. A couple of places where there is still sort of a lack of belief or a bit of disbelief are those like IT, FMCG, chemicals, etc. Are you saying that perhaps it is time to bet on the underperformers? Samit Vartak: I am looking at companies where I am expecting close to 25% kind of earnings growth. A lot of companies in the IT sector or FMCG will never give you that, even half of that, so they are never really part of my portfolio.

Deven Choksey on one sub-sector to be bullish on in run up to election
«I think this is going to be a story for most of the midcap stocks, that if you missed out something, probably the valuations are going to be far more expensive and that is what the case here as well,» says Deven Choksey, MD, DRChoksey FinServ Pvt. Ltd. Let us begin by discussing Amara Raja Batteries because that stock has been charged up per se. It has doubled so far on a YTD basis and its other peer, even Exide, has managed to show a gain of around 80%. There is a latest announcement of another tie-up coming in from Amara Raja, but the big question is if you have missed out on the rally so far, is it good even for a fresh buy? Deven Choksey: Well, I think this is going to be a story for most of the midcap stocks, that if you missed out something, probably the valuations are going to be far more expensive and that is what the case here as well. I think the stock has already done the run-up in my viewpoint. Maybe I think the fundamentals are not doubted at this point of time. The growth and the prospects are also not doubted. But the fact remains that I think we are already scaled up on the valuation.

Flipkart explored a deal with Swiggy for a pie of quick commerce
Flipkart explored a potential stake purchase in Swiggy about eight to ten months ago as two of India’s largest consumer internet firms sought to ally amid disruption set off by the rise of quick commerce, investors aware of the matter said. Once the talks fizzled out due to a valuation mismatch, Swiggy filed a confidential draft application in April to list on the public markets, they added. Also present at the negotiations was Prosus—the largest investor in Swiggy with a 33% stake—which was keen to divest some of its holding, the sources said.
