Is a market-linked pension plan right for you? Vivek Jain explains
Vivek Jain, Head of Investments, Policybazaar.com, says if you are still below 40, you can go for a market-linked retirement plan because your risk appetite is higher and you have a longer horizon. Hopefully, you will get good returns if you stay in the stock market you have for 20-odd years. But if you are closer to retirement, 50-55 years old, then you should put in most of your savings in a guaranteed kind of pension plan. Retirement is a very crucial goal for a lot of us, we have seen that more than planning it in an investment-based way, a lot of people prefer buying retirement products from life insurance. Typically what are those products that we are talking about? We will get into the aspect where we can discuss if it is better than any other investment avenue.

Wait for earnings and Budget to identify attractive sectors for investment: Deepak Shenoy
«I would say at this point, wait. I know I think markets will react as they are, markets will just be markets and throw volatility at you just to excite you all the time. But I think at some point, we got to wait to get some reaction from the companies and see some numbers in the results,» says Deepak Shenoy, Founder, Capital Mind. Just wanted to get your views on the IT sector that we are trying to get the conversation going with. What is the view? Deepak Shenoy: So, I think we will wait for results. Basically, because the problem right now that you are seeing in the IT sector is that you are not really sure of the spends that are happening abroad. And a lot of places you are having issues, specifically in Japan and in Europe, you are having a different, more recessionary impulse there. America, you are having a different situation where spending has actually slowed down quite a bit and then they are not actually giving you big deals.

Failure spelling future success is an exception, not the rule
A new scientific paper on failure may have succeeded in offering the most depressing opening line in the history of scientific papers: “Is there anything failure does not ruin? It destroys reputations, careers, and families; economic prospects, political prospects, and social ones." That’s perhaps a useful corrective to all the graduation speakers, motivational gurus, and TED-talk-giving experts who glibly recount how they persisted, failure after failure, on the way to success. It’s easy to forget that many more people fail at least as many times and never achieve their goal. There are many more frustrated authors than best-selling ones, failed entrepreneurs than self-made billionaires, and actor-baristas than bona fide movie stars.
