Foreign companies pull more money from China's shaky economy
China last quarter, a sign that some investors are still pessimistic even as Beijing rolls out stimulus measures aimed at stabilizing growth. China's direct investment liabilities in its balance of payments dropped $8.1 billion in the third quarter, according to data from the State Administration of Foreign Exchange released late Friday. The gauge, which measures foreign direct investment in China, was down almost $13 billion for the first nine months of the year. Foreign investment into China has slumped in the past three years after hitting a record in 2021, a casualty of geopolitical tensions, pessimism about the world's second-largest economy and stronger competition from Chinese domestic firms in industries such as cars. Should the decline continue for the rest of the year, it would be the first annual net outflow in FDI since at least 1990, when comparable data begins.

Palaniswami crawled like cockroach for the sake of power: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin slams AIADMK chief
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday slammed leader of opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami wondering whether welfare schemes could be named after him alleging he crawled like a cockroach for the sake of office. Referring to Palaniswami's allegation that fund allocation was being made by the government for schemes named after late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi that are not useful for the people, Stalin said the AIADMK chief's remark was a bundle of lies. Listing out a string of schemes including the Kalaignar centenary library, Kalaignar jallikattu arena, a hospital in Chennai and the Rs 1,000 financial assistance scheme for women, all of which features the late DMK chief Karunanidhi's name, Stalin demanded to know which of such initiatives were not useful for the people. The CM said such remarks of Palaniswami smacked of arrogance and for this aspect alone, people of Tamil Nadu will defeat the AIADMK and that was sure.

'They are restless': Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Anand Dubey hits out at BJP over PM Modi's 'ATM' statement
BJP over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that the states in which the Congress comes to power become the ATM of the «shahi parivar,» Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey on Sunday said the «restless» BJP will face a «crushing» defeat in the assembly polls. Speaking to ANI, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson said that the BJP is «restless» after winning only 17 out of 48 seats in the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year. «It is not just the Prime Minister but the Home Minister and UP CM are also at it. They are restless. Ever since they won only 17 of the 48 seats in Lok Sabha elections, they are restless and desperate to win the hearts and trust of the people. But the people of Maharashtra are saying that they have to form government under the leadership of Maha Vikas Aghadi. So, PM is saying this in haste,» Anand Dubey told ANI.

GST leviable on AAI-Adani concessionaire pact for Thiruvananthapuram airport: Kerala AAR
Adani Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd is not a 'transfer of business', but supply of services and hence is liable to GST, the Kerala-bench of the GST Authority for Advance Ruling (AAR) has said. The Kerala AAR ruling is contrary to the rulings passed by the Rajasthan and Gujarat Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling (AAAR) in the case of transfer of Jaipur and Ahmedabad airports and Uttar Pradesh AAR in the case of Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. These authorities had exempted such transfers from goods and services tax (GST). The Airports Authority of India (AAI) in its application before the AAR said it has entered into a concessionaire agreement with Adani Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd for the operation, management, and development of the airport for 50 years. The AAI sought rulings from the AAR on a set of queries, including whether the agreement involves transfer of business and whether such a transfer would be treated as 'supply as going concern' and be exempt from GST.

Congress chief Kharge targets PM Modi, BJP for linking 'red book' of Constitution with 'urban Naxalism'
Narendra Modi and the BJP for equating a «red book» of the Constitution with "urban Naxalism" and said the PM gave a similar copy in 2017 to then President Ram Nath Kovind. Addressing a press conference here after launching the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi 's (MVA) manifesto for the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections, Kharge also said his party's demand for a caste census is not to divide people, but to understand how various communities are placed at present so that they can get more benefits. Notably, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was trying to seek support from «urban Naxals and anarchists» by holding a «red book» in his hand. Gandhi, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, has been displaying an abridged version of the Constitution in a red cover during his rallies.
