SEC denies Coinbase petition for crypto rules
Coinbase filed the petition last July, asking that the SEC "propose and adopt rules to govern the regulation of securities that are offered and traded via digitally native methods". In a 3-2 vote, the commission has denied the petition, stating that it disagrees that the current regime is "unworkable" for crypto securities. SEC chair Gary Gensler says: "The existing securities regime appropriately governs crypto asset securities." Since Coinbase filed its petition, the firm has been sued by the SEC for operating its crypto asset trading platform as an unregistered national securities exchange, broker, and clearing agency. Republican Commissioners Hester Peirce and Mark Uyeda voted to back the Coinbase petition, saying in a joint statement that it "raises issues presented by new technologies and other innovation".

Elon Musk must testify again for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's probe of his $44 billion Twitter takeover, handing the SEC a victory in its latest skirmish with the world's richest person. During a hearing in San Francisco, U.S. Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler quickly rejected arguments by Musk's attorney that SEC officials do not have the authority to issue subpoenas, saying the agency has broad investigative powers and that no judge would «second guess» an SEC probe.

Quadruple Leverage Enters US Market with 'XXXX': A New Era of Risk?
Quiver Quantitative — The recent launch of the MAX S&P 500 (SPY) 4X Leveraged ETNs, trading under the ticker 'XXXX', (XXXX) has brought exchange-traded notes (ETNs) back into the financial spotlight. Promising to quadruple the daily returns of the S&P 500, these ETNs represent the highest-leveraged trade currently available to U.S. investors. Issued by the Bank of Montreal (BMO) and MAX, their brand for leveraged and inverse products, these ETNs are marketed primarily to sophisticated investors who can actively manage their investments. However, with a fee of 0.95% and the high risk associated with such leveraged products, financial experts, including Dave Nadig from VettaFi, have raised concerns about the potential risks and costs to investors.
