Speaking via a video link in the regional conference on 'Drug Trafficking and National Security,' Mann urged the Centre to give Punjab the financial assistance for 10 years — Rs 60 crore per year — for creation of Special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances courts and recruitment of public prosecutors, said an official release. Mann said, there were 35,000 drug cases pending for trial as on January 1, 2025, adding, at present rate of disposal, on average, a sessions court takes seven years to complete the trial.

Z-Morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district which is likely to be thrown open by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 13, officials said on Saturday. NLC India Ltd on Saturday said its renewables arm has entered into a joint venture pact with Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) for developing 1000 MW solar power projects in Assam. The pact has been signed between NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL) and APDCL, a company statement said. While NIRL will have 51 per cent stake in the JV, APDCL will have 49 per cent. As per the pact, NIRL will bring its expertise in renewable energy project development and APDCL will facilitate land acquisition, regulatory approvals, and power evacuation infrastructure. Power purchase pacts will be signed with Assam discoms for the sale of 100 per cent of the generated power for 25 years.

National Food Security Act (NFSA) of 2013 has been instrumental in reducing child stunting in India, preventing stunting in approximately 1.8 million children across eight states, reported TOI, citing a study published in the American Economic Association's Journal on Applied Economics. The evaluation highlights the impact of expanded food grain distribution under the Act on child nutrition, stunting, and dietary diversity. The study, conducted by Aditya Shrinivas of IIM Bangalore alongside researchers from the universities of California and Calgary, found that the Public Distribution System (PDS) under the NFSA improved not just nutrition but also household welfare. By increasing daily wages and overall income, the PDS provided crucial support to poor households, who are primarily net labor suppliers. Additionally, it helped vulnerable families withstand climate shocks such as poor rainfall or drought. The NFSA standardized entitlements to 5 kg of staple grains per person per month at subsidized rates—Rs 3 per kg for rice and Rs 2 per kg for wheat. Before the Act, states had discretion over prices and quantities offered under the PDS. This shift from per-household to per-individual entitlements particularly benefited larger families, prompting less generous states to expand their food distribution programs.

This is the fifth consecutive day where we are trading below to 200-day moving average for both the indices, Nifty as well as for the Bank Nifty. And Bank Nifty has shown a very deeper cut like 4.5% during this week. So, the kind of supply pressure in the banking and financial is clearly showing that still market is not trying to find any kind of bottom at this juncture. We are almost trading near to crucial support area of 23,300, which is the previous swing low, and if we look at the entire rally after the general election in June 2024, we are now almost there at that level only.
