Anuj Gupta recommends staggered gold investment for long-term gains
«Gold demand is not coming only from the individual. Even we have seen lots of central banks increasing their gold holdings. So, the demand is the main reason that gold prices are increasing in last almost five years,» says Anuj Gupta, HDFC Securities. My grandmother used to say, buy gold, do not ever sell gold. It is coming out so true. Gold is up 15x in last 20 years. Why is gold prices moving the way it is moving? Anuj Gupta: See, the demand is the only concern is the main reason that gold prices increased sharply. And also, the uncertainty in the global market. In last five years, in COVID or after the COVID, we saw a huge jump in gold prices due to the demand because now investors are taking gold as an investment, not as a jewellery, so we saw a huge demand in gold bar, in gold coins, the demand is increasing.

Anand Mahindra hails 'human calculator' Aaryan Shukla, wants to know his secret technique. Teen prodigy reveals
Anand Mahindra took to social media on Tuesday to commend the exceptional mathematical prowess of 14-year-old prodigy Aaryan Shukla, who achieved a groundbreaking feat by securing six Guinness World Records in a single day. Originating from Maharashtra, Shukla set these records in February during a high-stakes mental math competition held in Dubai. Expressing his admiration in a post on X, Mahindra remarked, «14-year-old Aaryan Shukla from India last month broke the world record for the fastest time to mentally add 100 four-digit numbers—30.9 sec. Leaves you dazed and bewildered. Congratulations Aaryan!» Curious about the methodology behind such extraordinary mental calculations, Mahindra inquired, «I’m sure Aaryan has a special gift beyond the ordinary, but are there any sites that give a primer on the fundamentals of this technique? I’m not looking to break any world record. Maybe I can use it for some simple, daily business calculations!»

New GST rule from April 1, 2025: ISD mandatory for input tax credit; not following will lead to ITC denial, minimum penalty of Rs 10,000
GST registrations have faced confusion regarding the process for distributing common input tax credits (ITC) availed on services to lower net GST liability. While some entities have opted for the input service distributor (ISD) mechanism to allocate common ITC to their other GST registrations (under the same PAN), others have chosen the cross-charge method. In July 2023, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) clarified that the ISD mechanism is not mandatory for distributing common ITC availed from third parties to other GST registrations. As a result, businesses had the flexibility to choose between the ISD mechanism and the cross-charge method. However, this arrangement will change starting April 1, 2025.

China conducts air, sea drills near Taiwan, blaming recent statements by US, Taiwanese leaders
The ministry on Tuesday published on its social media several images of Chinese drones and ships and said 43 out of 59 of them entered Taiwan's air defence identification zone but that no confrontations were reported. Taiwan monitored the situation and deployed aircraft, navy ships and coastal anti-ship missile defences in response, the ministry said. China launches such missions on a daily basis in hopes of wearing down Taiwanese defences and morale, although the vast majority of the island's 23 million people reject Beijing's claim of sovereignty over Taiwan and its threat to use force to assert its control. It's unclear what prompted the large Chinese deployment. Daily figures often vary widely based on statements by the Taiwanese authorities or their US partners.

Should you stop investing in PPF, SSY, NPS when switching to the new tax regime?
new tax regime has become even more alluring after the personal income tax amendments in Budget 2025. However, this shift comes with a price — the inability to claim deductions on investments that save taxes. For investors who primarily invested in Section 80C instruments to avail tax benefits, the shift to the new tax regime presents an important dilemma—should they continue with these investments or discontinue them altogether? While the new tax regime eliminates the advantage of deductions, discontinuing certain investments like Public Provident Fund (PPF), Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), and National Pension System (NPS) without careful consideration can have unintended consequences. Starlink readies road for India’s strong connectivity
Starlink may offer massive satellite connectivity — a few terabytes per second of data throughput — in India, with a large amount of it already in place and can be provided immediately to customers once all the necessary approvals are obtained, people aware of the details told ET. The Starlink capacity is expected to be 80-90 times more than that of rivals Eutelsat OneWeb or Reliance Jio-SES, which could offer only 30-50 gigabits per second (Gbps), the people said. The Elon Musk-owned satellite communication company plans to set up three gateways — in Mumbai, Pune and Indore — and one point of presence in Mumbai to cater to the India market, they said. While gateways act as a bridge between a satellite and the terrestrial communication network, transmitting data between the two, the point of presence is also a key pillar for the network, though much smaller in size and scale.

Public Sector Banks must focus on capital strength, cost efficiency: Govt
Public sector banks must plan for appropriate and timely capital raising and strive to reduce intermediation costs to make banking products and services, particularly credit-related, affordable to the public, said M Nagaraju, secretary of the department of financial services on Monday. He was addressing bankers at the 77th annual general meeting of the Indian Banks' Association (IBA). «Each bank needs to identify its focus on building capacity and planning road maps for appropriate and timely capital raising or efficient allocation of resources, besides striving to bring down intermediation costs,» Nagaraju said. Speaking at the same event, State Bank of India chairman CS Setty said as new and unfamiliar industries emerge, banks must develop the expertise to assess these evolving business models and lending risks.
