India offers trade pacts to individual members of Mercosur
Piyush Goyal Wednesday proposed signing of free trade agreements individually with the members of the 4-member Mercosur bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. His statement comes as the efforts to expand the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with the Mercosur are stuck. “I propose to either expand the MERCOSUR trade agreement or look at trade deals bilaterally,” he said at a CII event. India went ahead with a bilateral trade deal with UAE when the talks to secure a trade pact with Gulf Cooperation Council nations weren’t making much headway. Goyal also said that India is also working with Chile to expand its PTA with Chile and turn it into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The PTA with Chile was signed in 2006 and expanded in 2017. Within the LAC region which includes 33 countries the FTA negotiations with Peru are in advanced stages.

Govt to come up with new concessional toll charges for highway users: Nitin Gadkari
Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said the government will soon come up with a new policy for toll charges on national highways, offering a reasonable concession to consumers. Replying to queries in Rajya Sabha, the minister also said that the apex committee and high-level empowered committee have recommended further deliberations for satellite-based tolling in view of security and privacy considerations, breach and overall operational control. The ministry of road transport and highways is firming up annual and lifetime charges for toll on national highways likely to be around Rs 3000 for a year and Rs 30,000 for 15 years, paid in one-go. The move is aimed at maintaining cash flow for the government while ensuring seamless travel experience at toll plazas by highway users. Responding to a question, the minister asserted that the government is spending a lot on building road infrastructure and therefore toll charges are necessary. “It is the policy of the department that when you want a good road, you have to pay for it,” Gadkari said. According to the rules of 2008, toll plaza on the same section of the national highway and in the same direction cannot be established within 60 kilometers.

RCB in IPL 2025: From Virat Kohli to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, here are top 5 players to watch out for
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head into the 18th edition of the IPL still in pursuit of their first-ever title. In the previous season, they made an incredible late surge, winning six straight matches to secure a playoff spot, narrowly surpassing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on net run rate. Their journey, however, came to an end in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals (RR). With Rajat Patidar stepping up as captain and a number of key signings strengthening the team, RCB is optimistic that this could be the year they finally clinch the title. A major shift for RCB this season is the appointment of Rajat Patidar as captain. Moving away from their usual reliance on international stars for leadership, the franchise has placed its trust in a rising Indian talent. In addition, RCB has prioritized squad balance over chasing big-name players. Their bowling department, once a weak spot, has been significantly strengthened with the signings of Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a total of INR 23.25 crore.

Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal to pay alimony to Dhanashree Verma. Not Rs 60 cr but...
Bombay High Court directed the Family Court to hear their case on Thursday, considering Chahal’s participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins on March 22, as reported by Bar and Bench. Chahal and Dhanashree have been living separately for over 2.5 years. Given this, they have requested the court to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period and grant them a divorce immediately. Under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, estranged couples must attempt reconciliation during this period before proceeding with divorce. However, a 2017 Supreme Court ruling allows for this period to be waived if both parties mutually agree. Earlier, on February 20, the Family Court denied their request for an early divorce due to partial alimony payments. Chahal had agreed to pay Dhanashree Rs 4.75 crore as alimony but had only transferred Rs 2.37 crore at the time of the hearing. The court noted that he had only partially fulfilled the settlement terms.

Global uncertainty may cloud steel outlook: Aditya Welekar
«Now the valuations are not very attractive at this point of time because all these positive news, the hike which the steel mills have taken are in the price,» says Aditya Welekar, Axis Securities. Given that the industry was rallying for 25%, but expectation was about, 10 to 15 is going to actually come in in terms of safeguard duty. Tell me, how does this really move the needle, if at all, for the steel industry? Aditya Welekar: So, I guess you summarised it, so the expectation was quite higher, 20% to 25%, and the outcome of 12% is slightly below that. And part of it, which I want to highlight, is that in the first week of March, those steel mills have already taken price hikes in the tune of Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 for the flat HRC, that is hot rolled coils and cold rolled coils. So, with that backdrop, the stocks have already anticipated that such a move should come and the share prices have reflected that partly.

US suspends some efforts to counter Russian sabotage as Trump moves closer to Putin
Russian sabotage, disinformation and cyberattacks, easing pressure on Moscow as the Trump Administration pushes Russia to end its war in Ukraine. Former President Joe Biden last year ordered his national security team to establish working groups to monitor the issue amid warnings from U.S. intelligence that Russia was escalating a shadow war against Western nations. The plan was led by the president's National Security Council (NSC) and involved at least seven national security agencies working with European allies to disrupt plots targeting Europe and the United States, seven former officials who participated in the working groups told Reuters. Before President Donald Trump was inaugurated, his incoming administration was briefed by Biden officials about the efforts and urged to continue monitoring Russia's hybrid warfare campaign, the former U.S. officials said. However, since Trump took office on Jan. 20 much of the work has come to a standstill, according to eleven current and former officials, all of whom requested anonymity to discuss classified matters. Reuters is the first to report on the full extent of the Biden administration effort and how multiple different U.S. agencies have since paused their work on the issue.

Oracle to provide cloud computing, AI services to Singapore military
Oracle said on Wednesday it would provide Singapore's defense technology arm with «isolated» cloud computing and AI services, in the company's first such deal in Southeast Asia. Southeast Asian governments are frequent targets of cyber espionage campaigns and are facing escalating supply chain attacks, according to security researchers. Under the deal, the US firm will provide Singapore's armed forces and defense ministry with an «air-gapped» isolated cloud computing infrastructure — meaning that it will be cut off from the internet and connected instead to classified networks via encrypted devices.

Alphabet, stand to reap returns as high as 200 times for seed investors, among them Sequoia Capital, Cyberstarts and Index Ventures. The $32 billion all-cash Wiz deal on Tuesday marked a major win for about 25 firms on Wiz's cap table, according to PitchBook, a rarity in the past few years as high interest rates and tight antitrust scrutiny reduced exit events. Among the investors, the biggest beneficiaries are those that put money into Wiz early and continued to invest over the years. Their success demonstrated the power law in venture capital when a small number of investments generate the majority of returns.
