My parents sent me to IIT to study Engg, but... IIM-A topper shares why she left the classic Indian path of a well-paying corporate job
Radhika Munshi, an alumna of IIT Roorkee and IIM Ahmedabad, left a high-paying corporate job to start Anorah, a contemporary saree brand. She shared her journey on Instagram, revealing how her career priorities changed over time. Reflecting on her past, Munshi admitted that her initial focus during her MBA was securing the highest salary package. «I was the topper at IIM Ahmedabad, and back then, my focus was entirely on landing the best job offer,» she wrote. However, life took a different turn, leading her to entrepreneurship.
Choosing passion over stability
In her social media posts, Munshi explained her decision to step away from the conventional path. «After following the classic Indian path of studying at IIT and then IIM, I decided to take the plunge to follow my dreams,» she stated.
She emphasised that no corporate salary could match the challenges and excitement of building a business. «The life of an entrepreneur is filled with ups and downs and even the highest pay check could never match the thrill that this journey brings!» she wrote.
Overcoming doubts and societal expectations
Munshi acknowledged the uncertainties she faced when she started Anorah. «I took the leap of faith when I left my well-paying corporate job to create my own brand of sarees. I was so scared initially when I would design the sarees… I would wonder if people would even like my sarees,» she shared.
She also spoke about societal pressures. «Unfortunately, society has a very limited opinion on success,» she noted, highlighting the judgment she encountered while pursuing an unconventional career.
