Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. gained 0.74 per cent to Rs 999.0 in Tuesday's session as of 10:35AM (IST) even as the equity benchmark Sensex traded 352.67 points lower at 65475.74. Earlier in the day, the stock witnessed a gap down start to the session.

Ambuja Cements Ltd. traded at Rs 430.15 on BSE at 10:30AM (IST) on Tuesday, up 1.21 per cent from previous close. The scrip quoted a 52-week low price of Rs 315.3 and a high of Rs 598.15.

Federal Bank Ltd.(up 2.13 per cent), Punjab National Bank(up 0.49 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd.(up 0.34 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd.(up 0.24 per cent) and Bank of Baroda(up 0.18 per cent) were among the top gainers. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(down 0.99 per cent), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd.(down 0.96 per cent), HDFC Bank Ltd.(down 0.95 per cent), State Bank of India(down 0.83 per cent) and ICICI Bank Ltd.(down 0.69 per cent) were the top losers on the index.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose more than 300 points while the Nifty50 closed above 19600 levels on Friday. India VIX was down by 10.28% from 12.82 to 11.50 levels in the previous trading session. Volatility cooled off and gave comfort to the bulls in the market at key support zones. Buy or sell stocks: Amid expectations of partial US shutdown, Indian stock market opened upside and extended its early morning gains further during Friday session. Nifty 50 index gained 114 points and closed at 19,638 levels, BSE Sensex went up 320 points and ended at 65,828 mark whereas Bank Nifty index added 283 points and closed at 44,584 levels.

Vedanta, which faces bond redemptions exceeding $3 billion over the next 18 months at its UK-based holding company, Friday said it would demerge into six listed companies to undergird the valuations of its revenue streams as diverse as mining, energy, and non-ferrous metals. Mumbai-listed Vedanta, which produces copper, aluminium, iron ore and crude oil, and is a subsidiary of the London-based Vedanta Resources (VRL), said the exercise was aimed at building a simplified corporate structure that would appeal to focused investors. Separate listed companies for each vertical should boost the valuations of revenue streams that typically have slightly different business cycles and competitive dynamics despite sharing the broader industry classification of commodities and natural resources. To be sure, the demergers require regulatory and shareholder approvals. Through this move, billionaire Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta will carve out five new listed companies with existing investors getting one share each in the newly listed companies for every share owned in Mumbai-listed Vedanta.

On the other hand, Phoenix Mills Ltd.(down 1.91 per cent), Brigade Enterprises Ltd.(down 1.03 per cent) and Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd.(down 0.65 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

Shares of Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(up 2.93 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd.(up 2.62 per cent), Ashok Leyland Ltd.(up 1.66 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd.(up 1.14 per cent) and Bharat Forge Ltd.(up 0.73 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack. On the other hand, Tube Investments of India Ltd.(down 3.72 per cent), Bosch Ltd.(down 1.55 per cent), MRF Ltd.(down 1.31 per cent), TVS Motor Company Ltd.(down 0.13 per cent) and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(down 0.11 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

Sector investing is very interesting and sometimes very exciting because all sectors go through cycles and if you catch a sector in its right cycle, then you can make outsized returns but that is also the downside of it because if you catch a sector in the wrong cycle, then you end up not being able to generate as much as Sensex or indexes returning.

The BSE Sensex advanced 320 points or 0.49% to settle at 65,828. The broader NSE Nifty surged 115 points or 0.59% to end at 19,638. In Q2 FY24, Nifty surged 449 points or 2.3% to 19638, while Sensex advanced 1,110 points or 1.7% to 65,828. From the Sensex pack, NTPC, Tata Motors, and Sun Pharma were the top gainers, rising 2-3%.

Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 114.75 points up at 19638.3 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters. However, stocks such as Navin Fluorine, CMM Infraprojects, FutureLifestyleFash, Debock Sales & Mktg and Dangee Dums, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
