Day trading guide for today: Amid weak global market cues, Dalal Street ended higher on fifth day in a row on Thursday. NSE Nifty finished 116 points higher at 19,727 levels, BSE Sensex ended 385 points north at 66,265 mark whereas Bank Nifty gained 469 points and closed at 44,878 levels. In broad market, small-cap index ended 0.40 per cent higher after climbing to a new peak of 38,169.65 levels.

Indian stock market indices are likely to open on a tepid note following mixed cues from global peers. The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a tepid start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading flat at around 19,785 level as compared to the Nifty futures’ previous close of 19,768.

Jio Financial Services shares were trading flat at Rs 254 in Thursday's trade after the stock was excluded from Nifty and other NSE indices. However, in today's intraday trade, the stock rallied up to 2% to Rs 257. In the Nifty pack, 23 stocks traded in the green, while 26 stocks traded in the red. The Nifty index was trading 15.65 points up at 19626.7. On the BSE, Continental Sec, Shoora Designs, Colorchips New Media, Redtape L and Atal Realtech hit their fresh 52-week lows, while Adishakti Loha, Shree Karthik, Responsive Ind., Usha Martin and Cochin Shipyard touched their fresh 52-week highs.

rupee fell 2 paise to hit the lowest level of 83.15 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday amid a strong American currency and elevated crude oil prices. Forex traders said, massive selling of equities by foreign investors in the past few sessions and subdued market sentiment also put pressure on the Indian currency. Crude oil breached the level of USD 90 per barrel after oil producing countries agreed to extend supply cut till December this year, while dollar strengthened on safe-haven demand. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 83.15 against the dollar, 2 paise lower from its previous close.
