Transforming mosquitoes from foes to friends in the battle against dengue fever; Everything explained
dengue fever in Honduras has meant teaching people to fear mosquitoes and avoid their bites. Now, Hondurans are being educated about a potentially more effective way to control the disease — and it goes against everything they’ve learned. Which explains why a dozen people cheered last month as Tegucigalpa resident Hector Enriquez held a glass jar filled with mosquitoes above his head, and then freed the buzzing insects into the air.

Vladimir Putin says Russia to help North Korea build satellites
Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia would help North Korea build satellites and, when asked if he and Kim Jong Un would talk about weapons supplies, replied that the two leaders would discuss all issues. When asked by reporters if Russia would help Kim build satellites, Putin replied: «That's why we came here. The leader of the DPRK shows great interest in rocket engineering, they are also trying to develop space.» Putin showed Kim around Russia's most modern space rocket launch site, the Vostochny Cosmodrome, which is nestled among the forests of eastern Russia not far from the Chinese border. Kim arrived at Vostochny by train, after crossing into Russia early on Tuesday. «I am glad to see you,» Putin said as he shook Kim's hand for around 40 seconds at Vostochny. «This is our new cosmodrome.»

Japan's Aug wholesale inflation slows as cost pressures ease
wholesale inflation slowed in August for the eighth straight month, data showed on Wednesday, offering some relief for households and retailers hit by past sharp rises in raw material imports. The corporate goods price index (CGPI), which measures the price companies charge each other for their goods and services, rose 3.2% in August from a year earlier, matching a median market forecast. It slowed from a revised 3.4% rise in July, and is now off a peak 10.6% year-on-year surge hit in December last year, data by the Bank of Japan (BOJ) showed. «While crude oil prices remain high and yen falls continue, wholesale inflation is slowing… and could post a year-on-year decline in the fourth quarter,» said Toru Suehiro, an economist at Daiwa Securities. «The price declines seen for some goods can't be ignored» as it could affect households' perception of future price moves, he added. Rising wholesale prices, driven by last year's surge in global commodity costs and the weak yen, have pushed up Japan's broader consumer inflation by prodding many firms to charge households more for their goods. While consumer inflation has remained above the BOJ's 2% target for more than a year, the central bank has stressed the need to keep ultra-loose monetary policy until such supply-driven rise in prices is replaced by an increase backed by domestic demand.
