Investing.com — The S&P 500 gave up some gains to trade flat Friday, even as a monthly jobs report showing slower wage growth underpinned optimism that slowing inflation will likely persist encouraging the Federal Reserve keep rates steady next month.

NEW DELHI : India’s manufacturing PMI rose to a three-month high of 58.6 in August on the back of an increase in orders and output, a private survey showed. According to S&P Global, India’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for manufacturing stood at 57.7 in July, 57.8 in June, and 58.7 in May. A figure of 50 separates expansion from contraction.

Enforcement Directorate late Friday night arrested Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal in a money laundering case linked to an alleged bank fraud of ₹538 crore at the Canara Bank, official sources said. He was taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following a long session of questioning at the central agency's office here.

MUMBAI : The share of public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the overall market capitalization of the listed universe is at more than a four-year high of 11.34%, a Mint analysis showed, indicating that these companies could be on the path of recovery after reeling under pressure for the past three years. The analysis covered 1,958 BSE-listed stocks, and the data is as of 28 August. As of 31 March, the PSU stocks’ share in the total market capitalization reclaimed the 11% mark, the first time it ended a fiscal year at that level since 31 March 2019.

For the fiscal year under review, Bharti Airtel's consolidated content cost jumped 18% to ₹856 crore. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday said the state government has decided to present the ground realities before the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) before going to the Supreme Court on the issue of releasing Cauvery river water to neighbouring Tamil Nadu. Karnataka will appeal to the twin bodies to visit the state and assess the ground realities, he said. The state will also press for construction of the Mekedatu balancing reservoir, by highlighting it as the only solution for the water dispute between the two states during the times of rainfall distress, he added. As the lack of rains in the Cauvery basin has led to water scarcity, Shivakumar said the situation is grim and expressed hope that Tamil Nadu will show a «soft corner» to Karnataka in allowing it to use at least the water needed for drinking purposes. «Our latest request is — CWMA has asked us to release 5,000 cusecs.
