Central spending gives a boost to liquidity, brings overnight rate 10 bps below repo
government spending after the polls has injected fresh liquidity into the banking system, bringing down overnight borrowing rates, Treasury Bill yields and, in turn, short-term financing costs for Indian companies, even as the central bank seems to be in no great hurry to lower policy rates. After being at or above the Reserve Bank of India’s repo rate of 6.50% in May and June, the overnight weighted average call rate (WACR) has averaged 6.39% so far in July, more than 10 basis points lower than the benchmark policy rate, an analysis of daily central bank data showed. One basis point is a hundredth of a percentage point. The key driver of the evident shift in banking system liquidity to a surplus from a protracted deficit has been a flow of government expenditure — of about Rs 1 lakh crore — over the past few days. “Government cash surplus (Centre and states), which had peaked at Rs 5.1 lakh crore as of May 24 after the RBI dividend, has reduced to Rs 2.1 lakh crore as of July 11, with a pick-up in the pace of government expenditure,” said Gaura Sengupta, chief economist, IDFC First Bank.

Feeling anxious? You might become more prone to Parkinson's Disease
anxiety could face double the risk of developing Parkinson's disease compared to their calmer counterparts. Parkinson's, as many know, is becoming increasingly common globally, with projections showing it could affect a staggering 14.2 million people by 2040, thanks to longer lifespans. So, maybe it's worth paying attention to those nerves and keeping tabs on your mental health as you age. The study confirmed that people with anxiety are at higher risk for developing Parkinson’s Disease (PD), with depression, sleep disturbance, fatigue, cognitive impairment, hypotension, tremor, rigidity, balance impairment, and constipation also identified as risk factors.

What is Form 16? How to download Form 16 to file income tax return (ITR)
Form 16 is a certificate issued by an employer under section 203 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, which pertains to the deduction of tax at source (TDS) from the income earned as salary during a financial year. The employer provides it to show the tax deducted from the employee's salary, which is then deposited with the government against the employee's PAN. The TDS certificate contains a comprehensive overview of the salary amount disbursed to the employee and the tax that has been deducted from it. Additionally, if an employee chooses the old income tax regime and presents investment proofs, this information will be included in Form 16. The employer must give the employee their Form 16 if the employer withholds taxes from the employee's salary.

Asset manager network slams 'polarising' FCA listings reform over loss of investor protections
The network, which represents firms managing around $77trn in assets, said it is «deeply concerned» by the loss of shareholder votes on significant and related party transactions and by the introduction of a two-tier system for share ownership. ICGN CEO Jen Sisson said investors had repeatedly expressed concerns over the changes, but the introduction of the new rules shows they «have not been heard». FCA introduces overhaul of UK listings regime to bolster stock markets «It is disappointing to see what feels like a polarising approach, pitting management and their advisers against ...

VP Kamala Harris has a better chance of retaining White House than Joe Biden, says CNN poll
Kamala Harris, who is of Indian and African heritage, has a better chance of retaining the White House in the US presidential polls than her boss Joe Biden, according to the latest CNN poll. The approval rating of President Biden, 81, has plummeted after his dismal debate performance in Atlanta last week against his predecessor and Republican rival Donald Trump. Since the debate, there have been increasing voices in the ruling Democratic Party for Biden, the oldest sitting US President, to step down and let someone else run the race for the crucial November 5 presidential elections. According to the CNN poll conducted by SRS, Trump, 78, is ahead of Biden by six points.

India needs a data-driven strategy to plug skill development gaps
India’s rapidly growing youth population is a double-edged sword for its economic aspirations. While the demographic dividend presents a tremendous opportunity for growth, capitalizing on it calls for equipping the workforce with skills in line with the changing demands of the global economy. World Bank data shows a concerning trend: India’s labour mobilization rates have fallen from over 70% in 1990 to 56% in recent years.

Democrats worried after Biden’s bizarre claims in a radio interview even after the questions were vetted by his team
CNN, two radio presenters who got an opportunity to interview US President Joe Biden expressed their surprise that the president could not answer even questions that were pre-approved by his team. The president had the questions given to him before the interview and yet he could not answer coherently. This just adds to a growing number of media reports that have suggested a ‘cognitive decline’ in the US President. A Philadelphia radio show host said that Biden’s team had fed her questions before the interview. She said that the president made certain bizarre claims during the interview. This has been reported by the New York Post.
