Larry Summers says CPI raises chances that Fed’s next move is to hike
Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said that the hot US consumer price inflation report for March means that the risk case of the next Federal Reserve move to be an increase must be taken seriously. “You have to take seriously the possibility that the next rate move will be upwards rather than downwards,” Summers said on Bloomberg Television’s Wall Street Week with David Westin. He indicated that such a likelihood is somewhere in the 15% to 25% range.

Himachal: Independent MLAs move HC over 'delay' in acceptance of their resignation by Speaker
MLAs in Himachal Pradesh, who had voted for the BJP candidate in the recent Rajya Sabha election, on Wednesday moved the High Court seeking acceptance of their resignations from the Assembly. The three Independent MLAs — Hoshiyar Singh, Ashish Sharma and K LThakur — had voted in favour of BJP nominee Harsh Mahajan in Rajya Sabha polls held on February 27 and resigned from the Assembly on March 22. Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania had issued a show cause notice to these legislators seeking an explanation from them till April 10 following a representation from the Congress legislative party claiming that these MLAs resigned under duress and not voluntarily. A decision on the resignation of three Independent MLAs cannot be taken till the case is adjudicated by the court, the Speaker said on Wednesday.

Quoting a PIA spokesperson, the Dawn newspaper reported that the Pakistan International Airlines flight from Jeddah to Islamabad, carrying Sharif and his daughter Maryam back from their visit to Saudi Arabia, was diverted to Lahore airport on Monday.

Any dip in Nifty toward 22,500 a buying opportunity; 2 stocks to buy today: Shilpa Rout
Shilpa Rout, Derivatives Analyst, Prabhudas Lilladher, says Coal India is one of the top picks had today. The other one would be SRF which is also showing a lot of momentum. The chemical and fertiliser space is buzzing very strongly. And from here, SRF can touch Rs 2,750 to 2,800. It has already run up from the time I have been giving this recommendation. But yes, on every decline towards 2,640 also, we can buy. Let’s keep a stop loss at Rs 2,600 or just below that, maybe Rs 2,595 and look for targets towards Rs 2,800. What are you expecting in Nifty and Nifty Bank? Nifty has crossed the 22,700 mark/ Any particular level that one should watch out for as a support and a resistance for the Nifty? Shilpa Rout: We see that there is a resistance at around 22,800 and until and unless we breach on the upside from here, we might not see 22,000, 23,200 coming in very easily. However, there is a limited downside. We have a very strong support at 22,500 as well. So, any sort of dip that you get intraday or maybe a couple of days towards 22,500 should be a buying opportunity and to go long for 22,800 to 23,000 to 23,200 as well.

Congress MP files complaint against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma over MCC 'violation'
Congress MP and Lok Sabha poll candidate from Nagaon constituency in Assam, Pradyut Bordoloi, has filed a complaint against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging that he violated the model code of conduct by offering money to all ration cardholders during the ongoing election campaign. Bordoloi filed the complaint to the chief election commissioner on Tuesday night, alleging that Sarma, in a public meeting in Lakhimpur during the day, made a promise to transfer Rs 10,000 to the bank accounts of every ration cardholder after the election. Stating that such assurances are a «clear violation» of MCC, the Congress leader said, «Such promises are not only unethical but also an attempt to influence voters through financial inducements, thereby compromising the integrity of the electoral process». He urged the ECI to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against the chief minister for his «misconduct».
