Canara Bank, part of the PSU banking segment, rallied more than 20% in the last 3 months to hit a fresh record high in December 2023 and the chart pattern suggests that the rally may not be over yet. Short-term traders can look to buy the stock for a target of Rs 432 in the next 3-4 weeks, suggest experts. The PSU stock hit a 52-week high of Rs 419 on 1st December 2023. It rose from Rs 328 as on 1st September to Rs 410 recorded on 1st December which translates into an upside of about 25% in the last 3 months. The stock rose more than 5% in a week, and over 7% in a month. The PSU stock bounced back after taking support above 380 levels in the last week of November.

There may be no direct correlation between a party's performance in assembly polls and the Lok Sabha polls that occur shortly after, but these elections do matter for both the winner BJP and the Congress so far as strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls is concerned.

BJP winning 115 seats in a bitterly-fought election. The perceived lack of anti-incumbency in Rajasthan, however, did not shield Ashok Gehlot from the state's dreaded five-year electoral itch as the Congress was restricted to a modest 69 seats. Several ministers, including Disaster Management Minister Govind Ram Meghwal, who was also the Congress' campaign committee chief, was defeated by BJP's Vishwanath Meghwal on Khajuwala seat.

Congress party's 0-3 defeat to BJP in the Hindi heartland not only marred the party's hopes in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan but also hit at the very heart of Congress' preparation for the Lok Sabha polls. The failure also clouds Congress' quest to position itself within the INDIA bloc as it can make the party prone to the pulls and pressures from regional biggies, who have already made taunting noises on the Congress' poor show. Whither INDIA? After not convening any INDIA meeting since mid-September by hoping it will do so from a position of strength after winning some states, Congress on Sunday advertised its resolve to convene an alliance meet.

Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the BJP seems to have virtually triumphed over the politics of caste ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The BJP’s experiment with the welfare of “Yuva, Mahila, Kisan and Garib” has paid its political dividends in the three states of the Hindi heartland. And the road ahead for the party now looks easy with its continuous attempts to bring various castes under an umbrella of “class politics”, with the help of the welfare schemes launched by the Modi government. While recently interacting with beneficiaries of the schemes at the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the combination of four — “Youth, Women, Farmers and Poor” — as “the biggest castes”. Although the Congress remains a major political player in these three states, the poll results brought disappointment in the entire opposition camp, which has been pushing for caste census ahead of the 2024 LS polls.
