The Rolling Stones show no inkling of gathering moss
Rockstars can be confusing, conflicting, and seen to be regularly contradicting each other in what older legends once called 'being dialectical'. Much like religions. Classic rock legends Jethro Tull got it all wrong when they famously titled their 1976 album, Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die! The living proof of that error is the Rolling Stones. Last week, the Stones released the single, 'Angry', from their forthcoming album, Hackney Diamonds — their 26th studio album and with new material after 18 years — due for release on October 20.

India-Canada ties hit a new low as trade minister Mary Ng postpones India trip
India and Canada have hit a new low as Canadian trade minister Mary Ng has 'postponed' a planned trade mission to Mumbai next month without giving any explanation. The move comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's not-so-happy trip to India for the G20 Summit this month that also involved an extended stay here due to a snag in his flight. Ng was to come to Mumbai on October 9 along with Canadian businesses for a five-day trip known as a 'Team Canada' trade mission to revive bilateral trade talks that are currently paused, review trade ties, and meet industry representatives. «At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India,» a spokesperson for the minister said without giving a reason, as per a Reuters report. The relationship between Canada and India has been showing signs of strain in recent times with the Trudeau government taking limited steps to address India's concerns over anti-India activities in Canada. Last Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed India's concerns to Trudeau following the G20 Summit here. Officials here said extremist elements in Canada are promoting secessionism and inciting violence against Indian diplomats, damaging diplomatic premises, and threatening the Indian community in Canada and their places of worship. They said the nexus of such forces with organised crime, drug syndicates and human trafficking should be a concern for Canada as well. Modi had told Trudeau that it is essential for the two countries to cooperate in dealing with such threats.

Hasan Minhaj admits to fake stand-up stories, like daughter’s anthrax scare; comedian says he only exaggerates
Hasan Minhaj has confessed to making up tales for his stand-up acts, including some personal experiences like his daughter's anthrax scare, which was fake. The American stand-up comedian admitted to The New Yorker that he had fabricated certain details in some of his stand-up specials, like Netflix's The King's Jester in 2022. The comedian is a former host on Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj (now on Netflix) and a temporary guest and correspondent on The Daily Show. Here's what the stand-up said about his stories being created. “Every story in my style is built around a seed of truth. My comedy (is like an) Arnold Palmer (drink that) is 70% emotional truth — this happened — and then 30% hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction,” Minhaj said.

Decoding L&T's buyback and upcoming IPOs: Insights from Mahantesh Sabarad
“Reflecting on the recent market dynamics, where small-cap and mid-caps have seen a dip in prices over the past week, these IPOs might not seem alluring to investors due to their relatively high valuations,” says Mahantesh Sabarad, independent market expert. Edited excerpts:ET Now: I want to discuss the L&T buyback that opens on Monday, 18th September. Given the recent surge in the price of L&T over the last month, the buyback price is now around 3200. How do you view L&T's momentum moving forward? Additionally, do you anticipate strong participation in this buyback tender?Mahantesh Sabarad: Firstly, a disclosure, I own L&T shares. But to address your question, if you consider the number of shares set for buyback and extinguishment, it's just about 2.2%. This, in my view, won't significantly alter the stock's overall fundamentals. Typically, post-buyback, one examines whether there will be a significant improvement in return on equity, as the base capital, the equity capital, diminishes. Since the equity capital reduction is likely just around 2.2%, it's not substantial enough for the ROE to improve merely because of the buyback. As for retail investor participation? Given the narrowing gap between the buyback price and the current market price, many investors might opt out of the buyback. However, I do anticipate that the company will complete the buyback with full subscription, even if the overall number of shares offered might decrease.

I recall that all of those were from the large-cap space. Firstly, congratulations for that. And you were also bullish on the markets. But now, with the indices at a record high level, do you believe that in the next week we will continue to build on these levels? Do you have any specific levels in mind?

Covid field hospital scam: ED files chargesheet
ED) Friday filed its prosecution complaint ( PC) in the alleged irregularities in awarding the covid field hospital contracts to Lifeline Hospital Management Services (LHMS). A PC is equivalent to a chargesheet filed by the police under CrPC. Earlier in July, the ED had arrested Sujit Patkar, a co-partner of LHMS who is also said to be a close aide of Shiv Sena leader (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Sanjay Raut, and Dr Kishore Bisure, dean of the jumbo covidfacility in Dahisar. According to the ED, LHMS was incorporated with a mere investment of Rs 12,500, received Rs 31.84 crores from the BMC for supply of medical staff to covid centres. The probe found that 50-60 percent of the medical staff, including doctors and paramedics, were non-existent.
