Indian restaurant abroad, taken a bite and thought, “Wow, that’s really spicy!” This can just be the sharp contrast, if it’s in a country where the other food we’ve been eating has been bland. But Indian restaurants abroad can be surprisingly spicy, in ways we don’t expect with our home food. This is true of British curry houses, with their curries ranked by hotness, from mildKormas to medium-hot Madras, hotter Vindaloo and painfully hot Phaal (an invented term).

The worst investment ideas of 2023
why should I spend time running my business when returns from stocks are far better? Well, if you do find yourself in such a situation, or perhaps asking yourself this question, you should know we are in a pent-up bull market. In fact, it’s at this very moment, just when everything about stocks starts to look perfect, you should start to get anxious about stocks. If you are a seasoned long-term investor, you should be asking yourself–do I have enough cash on hand to jump in if and when the correction comes? On the other hand, if you are a trader or punter the question to ask is–what if things are not perfect after all? How much could I lose? I know this is wishful thinking.

Maratha reservation: SC will hear on January 24 Maharashtra govt's curative petition against quota verdict
Supreme Court has posted for hearing on January 24 a curative petition filed by the Maharashtra government challenging its May 5, 2021 judgment, which had held the Maratha reservation law unconstitutional. The curative petition is the last chance available to the people or parties in the case after the review petition is dismissed or has been exhausted. On May 5, 2021, the Supreme Court had struck down reservations for the Maratha community in colleges, higher educational institutions, and jobs, after noting that there was no valid ground to breach 50 per cent reservation while granting Maratha reservation. Challenging the May 5 verdict, the Maharashtra government had filed a review petition, which was also dismissed by the top court on June 23, 2021. Thereafter, it filed the curative petition. While rejecting the review plea, it had held, in a majority view, that the Centre alone was empowered to identify socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC) to include them in the Central List for claiming reservation benefits. The top court had also refused to revisit its 1992 Indira Sawhney verdict which fixed the ceiling limit for reservation at 50 per cent. The apex court had struck down the findings of the Justice NG Gaikwad Commission which led to the enactment of the Maratha quota law and set aside the Bombay High Court verdict which had validated the Maharashtra State Reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act of 2018. The High Court had, in June 2019, reduced the quantum of reservation for Marathas from the 16 per cent recommended by the Gaikwad Commission to 12 per cent in education and 13 per cent in employment.
