Libya Flood Disaster That Killed Thousands Was Decades in Making
A Mediterranean city dotted with historic mosques and the ruins of a nearby Byzantine church, Derna was once a haven for artists and intellectuals in Libya. Now, it is a wasteland after a deadly storm caused floods that broke dams, swept entire buildings out to sea and killed thousands of people. The natural disaster was decades in the making—a result of years of official neglect of two nearby dams during the authoritarian regime of Moammar Gadhafi and the political crisis and war since his ouster in a 2011 revolution.

The Census Exposes Bidenomics
You almost have to admire the brass of the Biden White House. The Census Bureau reported Tuesday that Americans are poorer under Bidenomics, and the President quickly changed the subject to blame Republicans for rising child poverty on his watch. As usual, too many in the press corps bought the spin.

Apple’s brand image opens its climate claims to extra scrutiny
renewable energy for some watch making, along with corporate offices, data centres and retail stores; a vow to cut carbon emissions by 75% from 2015 levels by 2030; a promise to use only “high quality" carbon credits to make up for whatever emissions Apple can’t eliminate; and a new tool called Grid Forecast that alerts users when green power is available. Apple deserves kudos for making so much noise about its social values. In this, the company is on the right side of history, setting a good example for its peers.

Joe Oliver: Liberals on the same path of self-inflicted ruin as the Soviets
The Soviet Union ultimately collapsed from internal contradictions related to a faltering ideology, limited free speech, economic mismanagement, deteriorating international influence and an inability to deliver on promises of a better life that were painfully obvious to all but were not, for fear of brutal reprisal, discussed publicly until near the very end. Justin Trudeau’s leftist woke government is afflicted by similar if milder contradictions that in our free country the aggrieved population living under them is discussing quite openly — which suggests the government’s dissolution will come faster.
