Sarma on Thursday said he was willing to accept any punishment, including retirement from public life, if there is any evidence that his wife has received or claimed any amount from the government of India.
Congress party has alleged that Sarma's wife firm got Rs 10 Crore subsidy from the government of India. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam chief minister who is chairperson and Managing Director of Pride East Entertainments Private Limited has announced to file Rs 10 Crore defamation case against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
The Opposition parties had earlier said that a firm run by Sarma's wife allegedly received Rs 10 Crore under a subsidy scheme.
Sarma stated in X, “The reply itself clarifies the fact that the Government of India has not released any funds to the mentioned company.
I want to emphasize once again that neither my wife nor the company she is associated with has received or claimed any amount from the Government of India. If anyone can provide evidence to the contrary, I am willing to accept any punishment including retirement from public life.”
On Thursday, Gogoi tweeted Union Minister Piyush Goyal's reply to a question raised in parliament in March regarding the Centre's investment initiatives in Assam.
«The whole day yesterday Himanta Biswa Sarma parroted one line regarding his wife's firm.
For his benefit I am stating the reply of Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal in Parliament. Piyush Goyal's reply has exposed the truth and both Ministers need to clarify,» Gaurav Gogoi said.
Gogoi posted in X a reply given on the matter by Union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal in Parliament.
