Delhi government’s ambitious plan to provide ₹1,000 per month to women over 18 years of age under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana (MMMSY) is projected to cost ₹4,560 crore annually, according to the finance department. With the city’s subsidy bill nearing ₹11,000 crore, officials have raised concerns that implementing the scheme from FY 2025-26 could result in a budgetary deficit. A draft proposal for the scheme, submitted by the Women and Child Development Department, estimates that approximately 38 lakh women in Delhi would qualify for financial assistance. However, the finance department has cautioned that a revenue deficit could lead to central government intervention, potentially limiting Delhi’s financial autonomy. Union Minister George Kurian on Saturday said the much-awaited visit of Pope Francis to India is likely to happen after 2025, which has been announced as the «Jubilee Year» by the Catholic Church. He said India had already invited the Pope officially and Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly extended him the invitation. The rest of the matters and procedures were to be decided by the Vatican. The visit would be scheduled as per the convenience of Pope Francis, he told media. US federal panel called Friday for legislation that would give regulators more authority over certain crypto assets, weeks before President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House. Trump has vowed that the United States would be the «crypto capital of the planet,» and during his election campaign drew heavy financial support from cryptocurrency backers. On Friday, the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) recommended that Congress pass legislation «providing federal financial regulators with explicit rulemaking authority over the spot market for crypto assets that are not securities.»
