View: Lok Sabha elections will determine the state of the economy this year, not the other way around
The 'before' picture would show you an oversized individual, while the 'after' picture would feature the same person but with a perfect physique, thanks to whatever potion or gym was being advertised. Or, you could have an acne-scarred face magically transformed into a blemish-free one. No prizes for guessing what the messaging was all about. It's a bit like that when it comes to reading the tea leaves regarding the economy in 2024.

Adani raises $15 bn in equity, debt in comeback strategy after Hindenburg rout
Gautam Adani's sprawling conglomerate has raised over USD 5 billion (Rs 41,500 crore) in equity and a double of that in debt this year as the apples-to-airport group made a comeback since being hit by a bombshell short seller report. Adani, who was the world's second-richest man at the start of the year, saw almost USD 60 billion of his personal wealth erased after Hindenburg Research in a January 24 report accused his group of market manipulation and accounting fraud. The group denied all allegations and reworked its strategy, fueling a comeback that now has the tycoon some USD 36 billion short of where he started the year and two notch and USD 12 billion shy of rival billionaire Mukesh Ambani.

Virat Kohli returns to run-scoring ways in record-breaking 2023, but redemption incomplete sans ICC, IPL trophies
Virat Kohli returned to his normal, run-scoring ways with a historic, record-breaking and consistent 2023 as a batter, breaking some massive batting records previously considered untouchable. The star batter went several steps ahead to match the legacy of the Indian great Sachin Tendulkar. This year will be known as the one of Virat's redemption. Every match, every series, and every tournament saw him grab headlines and re-write record books, even during some occasional off days with the bat. Though Virat's redemption story remains incomplete without the presence of the highly-elusive Indian Premier League (IPL) title, ICC World Test Championship mace, and the most heartbreaking of them all, an ICC Cricket World Cup trophy at home, Virat's batting still gave millions of his fans immeasurable joy, ecstasy, pride, and many more reasons to consider him their 'GOAT' (Greatest of All Time).
