Modi praises Trump while tariff time bomb ticks toward April 2 deadline
But while Beijing braces for impact, India’s strategy is more of wait and watch. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently showered warm words for Trump. Speaking on a podcast with Lex Fridman, Modi described Trump as «far more prepared» for his second term, crediting him with a clear roadmap and strategic steps to achieve his goals. However, Modi's praise comes amid looming reciprocal tariff threats and the fact that Trump has time and again called out India to be among the nations that charge the US the highest tariffs. While Trump has praised Modi often, he has called India a tariff abuser. In the February meeting, Trump and Modi discussed trade issues and the nations are working on a trade deal. Trump, nonetheless, wants actions from India that should be beneficial for his land, including India buying more oil from the US. Trump's close ally Elon Musk meanwhile also seems to be getting some advantage in India these days. While Tesla is about to enter India, telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel also signed deals with Starlink.

Blackstone strengthens India strategy with foray into housing property market
Blackstone Group is foraying into India’s rapidly growing housing property market, marking a strategic shift after leading the country’s commercial property space, with clear focus on the mid-income and premium segment of the market to begin with, said persons familiar with the plan. While the global alternative asset management firm has already established itself as India’s largest office and logistics landlord, and expanded aggressively into data centers, the proposed acquisition of listed company Kolte Patil Developers, marks its first big bet on housing market. «The plan goes beyond investment to building execution and development capabilities, with no capital constraints for growth. Previously, assets were acquired and consolidated, as seen with Nucleus Office Parks, Horizon Industrial Parks, and Nexus Select. In contrast, the strategy for housing focuses on establishing the platform first and then adding assets,» said one of the persons mentioned above.

Smallcap stocks under stress but is it time to buy the fear?
Small-cap equities delivered outsized returns in 2023 and 2024, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 Index up 56% and 24% respectively, outperforming both the Nifty Midcap 100 Index (2023: 47% and 2024: 24%) and the Nifty 50 Index (2023: 24% and 2024: 9%). Retail chains & restaurants shut stores as consumption slows
The Pantaloons departmental chain run by Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) has exited over 40 stores in tier-two and smaller markets in this period. Most Shoppers Stop stores that have been closed are at high-street locations because they «have lost that critical mass» and the company is trying to move them inside malls. Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd, which runs multiple quick service restaurants, said there is a decline in dine-in orders for pizza chain Domino's stores on the high street, even though footfall in mall outlets is robust.

You may be mistaken if you think the Democrats are out? Here are top candidates who are already lining up for 2028 US Presidential elections
Meanwhile, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker plans a trip to New Hampshire—a critical early primary state—fueling speculation about his ambitions. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz recently visited Iowa, engaging with Democrats frustrated by Trump-era policies and congressional inaction, signaling his national aspirations despite Iowa’s diminished role in the primary calendar. Though no official campaigns exist, potential contenders are leaving deliberate clues. Operatives and donors dissect travel schedules, policy speeches, and fundraising appearances for hints of presidential intent. New Hampshire Democratic Chair Raymond Buckley notes that early outreach—like Pritzker’s planned visit—resonates with activists eager to shift focus beyond Trump’s divisive legacy. However, challenges loom: The Democratic National Committee won’t finalize early primary states until 2026, complicating strategy. Meanwhile, midterm elections in 2026 remain the immediate priority, even as whispers about 2028 grow louder.
