Why South Korean and Japanese women are choosing American or European husbands
Data reveals a clear preference among these women for Western partners. In South Korea, 28% of international marriages in 2023 involved American men, followed by 18% with Chinese men. Marriages to men from other Western countries, including France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, accounted for approximately 17%. A similar trend appears in Japan, where American men were the top choice among foreign grooms for Japanese women. Japanese men seeking foreign brides, however, primarily choose women from China and the Philippines.

Pleasanteeism: A new workplace trend that leads to fake smiles and forced engagement
fake smiles and enthusiasm at work to appear cheerful even when they are overwhelmed and stressed. This facade of maintaining constant positivity at the workplace is called “pleasanteeism”. Though the term first came into existence during the Covid pandemic, it has become a common phenomenon now. But when employees continuously suppress their feelings and are forced to put up such a false face, it affects their mental health, which further leads to reduced engagement and productivity. Lalitha M Shetty, Vice President-HR at Omega Healthcare, says pleasanteeism arises when employees feel compelled to maintain a positive facade every single minute at work. This could be driven by organisational culture, fear of judgement or job insecurity.

How one of the world's richest men is avoiding $8 billion in taxes
Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, is the 10th-richest person in the United States, worth $127 billion. In theory, when he dies, his estate should pay 40% of his net worth to the government in taxes. But Huang, 61, is not only an engineering genius and Silicon Valley icon whose company, the world's second-most valuable, makes the chips that power much artificial intelligence. He is also the beneficiary of a series of tax dodges that will enable him to pass on much of his fortune tax free, according to securities and tax filings reviewed by The New York Times. The savings for his family are on a pace to be roughly $8 billion. It likely ranks among the largest tax dodges in the United States.

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Willmore hit six-month mark in space, countdown to Earth is on
Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore embarked on a historic mission in June, being the first to fly Boeing's new Starliner crew capsule to the International Space Station (ISS). The mission, intended as a weeklong test flight, faced significant challenges when thruster failures and helium leaks occurred during the journey. NASA subsequently deemed the capsule unsafe for a return flight, extending the astronauts' stay in orbit to February 2024, when they are expected to return aboard a SpaceX spacecraft. Despite the unexpected turn of events, Williams and Wilmore, both retired Navy captains, have embraced their extended mission with resilience and positivity. «We’re just on a different path,» Wilmore commented on their situation.
