markets Digital Strategy wellness Experts PAM hospital IHCL to adopt a more aggressive growth path
Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) will be releasing a new 'strategic matrix' in the near future that will be more aggressive than the previous ones and accelerate the pace of growth from a high base, IHCL CEO Puneet Chhatwal told ET. Looking at the chain's last ten quarters, as well as the immediate visibility into the current and upcoming quarters, Chhatwal said he is 'confident' of the outlook. «It's notable that Q2 has surpassed Q1, a trend we don't typically see as Q2 usually dips. This has been an exceptional outcome, particularly considering that the previous quarter was impacted by elections held in extreme summer conditions,» he said. «The market guidance for double-digit growth is well within reach-and by double-digit, we aren't talking about 10%, it could well be 12%, 14%, or potentially higher,» he added. IHCL posted a consolidated net profit of ₹583 crore in the September quarter, an over-threefold increase from ₹179 crore a year earlier.

markets Strategy Trade PAM country Inside Onion prices soar to 5-year high amid supply woes, exports boost
onion prices continued this week as the quality of the kharif crop from Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Karnataka was poor and boosted demand for the old, pricier crop at a time when there was also a surge in export demand. The maximum price of best quality onions jumped to Rs 70 per kg from Rs 51/kg a fortnight back, while the average prices have increased to Rs 58/kg from Rs 51/kg during the same period at the Pimpalgaon market in Nashik. There has also been a surge in exports as Bangladesh removed import duty on onions. Traders expect prices to decline only after 8-10 days as newer crop arrivals start elsewhere in the country. Onion prices crossed the five-year high of Rs 54/kg last week at the benchmark Lasalgaon market in Nashik. Traders said it was because of supply shortages as the wholesale markets were closed for many days across the country for Diwali. There was a rise of 30-35% during the last week in the wholesale prices.

markets Entertainment Strategy Food Boxing film audience Does the strategy of focusing more on premium audiences pay rich dividends to exhibitors?
Cinema Lovers Day on May 31. Then, September 20 was celebrated as National Cinema Day. On both days, multiplexes capped ticket price at Rs99. This was followed by re-releasing old films which stakeholders in the exhibition industry said would be an ongoing strategy if the pipeline of Hindi films is not strikingly good enough to attract footfalls in theatres. In a sharp contrast to the prevalent business strategy of multiplexes, Mukta A2 Cinemas capped prices of food and beverages at Rs99. Quite expectedly, these initiatives have borne fruits. It is estimated that 30 lakh tickets were sold across languages and formats on the National Cinema Day itself. Even Hindi films which were re-released in theatres recorded higher collections than when they were released. A prime example is the Hindi film Tumbbad, which collected over Rs36 crore on its re-release. This is much higher than close to Rs16 crore the film collected when it was released in 2018. A key reason for this is exhibitors offered tickets in the range of Rs110-150. All these favourable developments have transpired when fresh films in the Hindi film industry are failing at the box office. This shows that when tickets are priced economically people come to theatres irrespective whether a film is old or new.
