Centre can deduct outstanding payments from states getting benefits of PM e-bus
PM E-Bus scheme through a Direct Debit Mandate (DDM) with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to the PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme, notified by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), states getting electric buses (e-buses) through this route will permit the centre to recover overdue amounts. Procurement and operation of e-buses by Public Transport Authorities (PTAs) is supported under the PM e-Bus PSM scheme. These buses are handed over to state government or union territory-controlled PTAs to operate them and recover costs through fares. Since the PTAs are in poor financial health, bus suppliers fear they will not be paid by the states. The PSM scheme addresses concerns of e-bus suppliers by ensuring timely payments to operators through a dedicated fund. In case of payment default by Public Transport Authorities (PTAs), Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), the implementing agency, shall make necessary payments from the scheme funds which will be later recouped by the centre.

Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday asserted that Punjab should get fresh investments for setting up compressed biogas (CBG) and ethanol plants, and said he wrote to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann several times, but nothing happened on the ground. Replying to a question on the law and order issue in AAP-ruled Punjab, Puri said if the law and order is not right, then even the existing industry will also leave the state. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of Rozgar Mela here, Puri said entrepreneurs in Punjab should be encouraged to set up CBG plants in the state. «I feel pain that CBG plants are increasing in the country, but here (Punjab) CBG plants are finding it hard to run. If a CBG plant is run, it will benefit farmers. If an ethanol plant is set up, it will benefit farmers as they are run on biomass.

Donald Trump as she delivers her closing election argument Tuesday on the spot where her rival rallied supporters before the January 6, 2021 US Capitol attack. With polls in a dead heat exactly one week before Election Day, the Democratic vice president's campaign said she chose the symbolic site to push her case that the Republican former president is a threat to American democracy. But Harris will also deliver an «optimistic and hopeful» message, a senior campaign official said, amid rumblings in the party that she is focusing too much on Trump and not enough on her own policies.

'I'm not a saint': Jaya Kishori defends Rs 2 lakh Tote bag, says I haven't advised anybody to renounce anything
Dior bag worth over Rs 2 lakh, popular spiritual speaker and singer Jaya Kishori has responded to the controversy, clarifying her stance on material possessions. The 29-year-old preacher, known for her teachings on devotion and simplicity has said that she has never advised anybody to renounce anything. She said that she is just a normal girl, living a normal life. A controversy had erupted after she was recently spotted at an airport with the high-end handbag, sparking debate among her followers. The luxury item, recognized as a Dior Book Tote, features a cotton exterior and is allegedly lined with calfskin, details that have fueled backlash given Kishori's messages of non-materialism and detachment. Critics expressed confusion over the apparent contradiction between her expensive tastes and her spiritual teachings. In her defense, Kishori stated, «The bag is a customized piece. There is no leather in it, and the customization means it can be made according to personal wishes. My name is also engraved on it. I have never used leather, nor will I ever.» She further emphasized, «I have never advised anyone to renounce anything. I have not renounced anything myself, so how could I suggest that to others? I am clear from day one that I am not a saint, sadhu, or sadhvi. I am a normal girl, living in a regular house with my family. I encourage the youth to work hard, earn money, and give themselves and their families a good life.»

Limiting low-cost steel imports from China will hurt MSMEs in India: EEPC
As the government considers imposing additional duties to curb the influx of cheaper steel imports, which are impacting domestic producers, the Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC India) as well as steel producer Jindal Steel have voiced their concerns about the potential effects of these protectionist measures. EEPC India, the organisation advocating for engineering goods exporters, is against limiting steel imports from cost-effective markets. According to the council, curbing steel imports from China will severely impact the engineering goods sector, especially MSMEs, which depend on competitively priced steel to sustain operations. “It is imperative to keep domestic steel prices competitive. The price differential between Chinese steel and Indian-produced steel is significant. This price advantage enables downstream industries, especially MSMEs, to remain competitive in domestic and global markets,” says Arun Kumar Garodia, Chairman of EEPC India.
