Intel set for big drop in quarterly revenue as chipmaker struggles to bounce back
Intel is expected to report its biggest quarterly revenue drop in five quarters on Thursday, potentially signaling more erosion of data center and personal computer market share for the once iconic American chipmaker. Shareholders have turned their focus to CEO Pat Gelsinger's attempts to salvage the company's lost market lead as losses mount at its contract manufacturing business, while Intel fails to capitalize on the generative AI-driven chip boom, after a series of missteps including passing on an investment in OpenAI. With Wall Street expecting Intel to report an 8% decline in revenue to $13.02 billion, according to data from LSEG compiled as of October 26, investors want Gelsinger to provide clarity on his plans to get the company's latest manufacturing technology up and running.

ET In The Classroom: SIPs in Mutual Funds
Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) is a popular tool for investing in mutual funds and building a long-term corpus. Data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) show that investors register SIPs of Rs 25,000 crore every month, reflecting rising interest in mutual funds. WHAT IS A SIP? SIP is an investment option offered by all mutual fund houses, which enables an investor to put in a fixed amount of money at predefined intervals in a chosen mutual fund scheme. SIPs are offered in all fund categories — equity, hybrid, gold, international fund of funds or a debt fund. Many fund houses accept amounts as low as Rs 500. SIPs automate investing and help deploy money regularly into equities and debt without worrying about the ups and downs of the market. In the long run, investors stand to benefit due to rupee cost averaging and the power of compounding.

Donald Trump is the perfect tribal chief for ‘palaeoliths’ in MAGA tees’n’baseball caps
Donald Trump. Yet, there's an even chance that he'd emerge victorious from the Nov 5 US presidential election. How do Trump and his team manage to distort reality so well? A big part of the problem is what sociobiologist Edward O Wilson identified: humans have palaeolithic emotions, mediaeval institutions and godlike technology. Trump is tall, walks taller, talks loud, is rich, and projects power. That is enough to make him leader for 21st-century cavemen in MAGA tees and baseball caps. He feeds fear of the outsider, with his charge that illegal immigrants are rapists, killers and drug peddlers, and promises to undertake the largest deportation of aliens the world has seen. The tribe, forever wary of strangers, rallies around this protector.
