Telcos to call for Aligned satcom spectrum pricing
telcos will likely present a united demand before the regulator that new satcom players pay market-determined prices for spectrum – the single biggest capex item for telcos – when they compete with terrestrial network providers. Telcos have collectively spent `5.5 lakh crore to acquire this spectrum. Global biggies such as Elon Musk-owned Starlink and Amazon’s Kuiper are eyeing broadband services in India. Multiple people aware of developments told ET that Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea will be demanding that if satcom players are allowed to offer services in urban areas, serving retail or enterprise customers, a level playing field with terrestrial networks must be ensured.

RIL’s ‘quick’ retail fix: Expat coaches
Reliance Retail has tapped several expatriates with retail experience from Europe, US and South Asia in a bid to streamline its grocery supply chain operations, enhance the online fashion business Ajio and improve margins, two industry executives said. Some of these expats have also been entrusted to coach a pool of young Indian leaders for a top leadership succession planning exercise started recently by the retail business of Reliance Industries Ltd, the executives said. At least five chief executives at Reliance Retail in their late 50s and 60s may move to mentoring roles as advisors or superannuate over the next few years. The initiatives at Reliance Retail come at a time when brick-and-mortar retailers, including Reliance, and Avenue Supermarts Ltd—the owner of DMart retail chain—are facing intense challenges in grocery retail from quick commerce platforms in large cities amid a subdued demand environment.

Mercedes to step up cost cuts after weak Q3 earnings, competition woes in China
Mercedes-Benz will step up cost cuts after earnings halved in the third quarter hit by tepid demand and fierce competition in China, it said on Friday. The carmaker cut its full-year profit margin target twice during the third quarter, joining a growing number of European rivals blaming a weakening Chinese car market for falling profits and margins. Union Investment, which according to LSEG is among the 30 top investors in Mercedes, called on the management to amend its strategy as it sees no market for 2 million luxury cars any longer.

Trump to win every swing state? That's the most likely scenario as per this Nate Silver Model
U.S. election. According to the model, Trump has a 24.4% probability of claiming all seven swing states, while Vice President Kamala Harris has a 15.6% chance. Silver's analysis also suggests that if Harris wins every swing state except Arizona and Georgia, she could still win the election. However, this scenario has only a 1.7% likelihood of occurring. The forecast highlights that there is a 4.6% chance the Republicans will win all swing states except Nevada, where Harris currently holds a slight lead. In this case, Harris would secure 232 electoral votes, allowing Trump to win the presidency. Silver’s model emphasizes that Harris's best chances arise when she wins a combination of three to five battleground states. If she manages to secure Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, her chances of winning soar to 86.2%. Also Read :Wednesday Season 2: Expected release date, returning and new faces revealed

Give contract to fix Bengaluru roads to Elcita, not BBMP contractors, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw tells Karnataka Govt
Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has urged the Karnataka government to hand over the contract for the upkeep of Bengaluru’s roads to Electronic City Township Authority (Elcita) after heavy rains over the last few days left many areas flooded and roads damaged. Elcita, a statutory entity with municipal powers with taxation powers, manages the 902-acre industrial township on Bengaluru’s outskirts that is home to more than 300 companies. Shaw, who is also the Executive Chairperson of Biocon, urged the government to give the contract to fix Bengaluru’s roads to Elcita, and not to the contractors of BBMP, the City’s civic body, in her posts on the micro-blogging platform X. She also used pictures of well-maintained roads in electronic city, one of which said, Elcita uses road metrics, an AI tool, to scan roads every fortnight for defects. This data allows them to fix issues quickly before they worsen.

Tamil Nadu train crash fallout: Railway Board initiates 15-day drive to inspect interlocking points
Railway Board has initiated from October 23 a 15-day-long safety drive to inspect interlocking points and crossings across all rail networks in the country. In a written communication, the board has asked all railway zones and divisions to undertake the drive with a special emphasis on critical analysis of cases of derailment at these intersections in the last three years among other aspects. The drive was initiated almost a fortnight after a collision between a passenger and a freight train in Tamil Nadu. The incident is being investigated as initial findings hinted at an act of sabotage of the interlocking system or a possible mechanical defect in it. According to the board's letter, the officials should check if the interlocking points require frequent attention, their behaviour under the wheels of a train and also ensure the adequate availability of their components among other things.

India's DPI figures in global conversations around inclusive, scalable infrastructure: Experts
Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is now part of global conversations around inclusive and scalable infrastructure, and its blueprint can offer others an opportunity to harness technology for improving the lives of citizens, according to experts. Primus Partners, in association with iSPIRT, organised a DPI roundtable that saw key stakeholders such as senior bureaucrats, diplomats, policymakers, industry leaders and thought leaders discussing India's leadership in advancing DPI and its crucial role in driving socio-economic transformation. Delivering keynote address, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant noted India's remarkable leap in becoming the voice of the Global South in DPI, and in achieving in 9 years what would have taken 50 years, otherwise. «This sentiment was echoed during India's G20 Presidency, where countries reached a common consensus that DPIs are essential for equitable development and to improve the lives of citizens, especially in the global south,» he said.

Known for sometimes delivering what critics call “word salad” responses, Harris laughed as she acknowledged, “I may not be quick to have the answer… because I’m going to want to research it.”

Lois Marandi: 10 years after defeating CM Hemant Soren, ex-BJP MLA now a JMM nominee
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday released its fifth list for the assembly polls, announcing former BJP legislator Lois Marandi as its nominee from the Jama seat. The list contained only the name of Marandi who had defeated Chief Minister Hemant Soren in 2014 from Dumka. She defected from the BJP after not getting ticket and joined the JMM on October 21 along with two other former legislators — Kunal Sarangi and Lakshman Tudu. Lois Marandi, a former minister, said it was «painful» to part ways with BJP after serving it for 24 years. «The BJP in 2014 scripted a historic win in Dumka, which was considered a JMM bastion. But it honoured the women who are brought to the party from outside and not those who dedicated their entire life for them,» she had said.

Harris got permission to use the singer's anthem «Freedom» and it has been the leading soundtrack of her push for the White House. Both election candidates have sought to broaden their support by sidestepping traditional media in favor of podcasts and YouTube shows consumed by uncommitted young voters who could make all the difference in a tight vote.

EIB provides Rs 2700 crore loan for Bengaluru suburban railway
European Investment Bank (EIB) has sanctioned a €300 million (approximately Rs 2,731.02 crore) loan for Bengaluru suburban railway network. This will finance development of a new suburban railway network covering four dedicated rail corridors in Bengaluru. EIB said it has already supported Bengaluru's transportation sector with a €500 million loan to build the 23 km Bengaluru Metro R6 line and purchase a fleet of about 96 metro cars. The EIB’s support for transport in India includes the financing of metro investment in Agra, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Kanpur, Lucknow and Pune, with a total of €3.25 billion committed since 2016.
