drones, helicopters, and sniffer dogs searched the upper reaches of Gulmarg in northern Kashmir on Friday.
The officials said another army man injured in the attack in Bota Pathri area of Gulmarg on Thursday afternoon succumbed to injuries. As of now, three army men and two porters of the army were killed and two others injured in the attack when unidentified gunmen opened fire at an army vehicle. Officials say the People's Anti Fascist Front, an offshoot of Jaish e Muhammad, claimed responsibility and posted an unverified photo of the scene on social media.
While the operation continues, officials are tight-lipped regarding ground updates on Friday. Four or five infiltrators assaulted the army vehicle. A senior officer claimed sniffer dogs directed to the Shranz water canal, where assailants may have gone. This is the fifth Kashmir Valley attack in three weeks, killing 14 people-four army men, seven non-local labourers, and three locals.
Srinagar-based defense spokesperson issued a statement on Friday evening saying, «Pakistani terrorists, were forced to retreat leaving behind a weapon and rucksack and escaped into dense foliage, exploiting a nala and fading light,» read the statement. He informed that Rifleman Kaisar Ahmad Shah from Kashmir and Rifleman Jeevan Singh from Rajasthan along with two porters Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary of Uri were killed in the attack. «It is evident that Pakistani terrorists are, deliberately and unregretfully, targeting Kashmiri locals to evoke the fear and terror
