Political films lose steam at the box office Besides, CM Vijayan has asked the DD not to become a "propaganda machine" for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP and the Rashtriya Sayamsewak Sangh (RSS). "Kerala will remain steadfast in opposing such malicious attempts to sow hatred," Vijayan said. Rising interest rates? How to pay down your home loan faster
HDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector lender, has been gradually raising its repo rate-linked home loan interest rates since January of this year. Despite the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) maintaining the repo rate unchanged since April of the previous year, HDFC Bank has increased its rates. As the name implies, repo rate-linked home loan rates are supposed to adjust in line with changes in the repo rate.

Cboe Global Markets seeks SEC approval to list ETF share class structure
Cboe Global Markets filed a request with the SEC for regulatory approval to change its rules and allow issuers to add an exchange-traded fund (ETF) share class to existing mutual funds, the exchange said on Thursday. If approved, this would allow established asset management firms to more easily expand strategies that currently exist only as mutual funds by simply adding an ETF share class, throwing open the doors to thousands of new funds.

Ford slows its push into electric vehicles
Ford Motor Co. on Thursday delayed the production of at least two new electric cars and said it would pivot to making more hybrids. Its decision was the latest sign that large automakers have been forced to rethink their strategy for electric vehicles because sales for those models are slowing. The shift by Ford and automakers such as General Motors and Mercedes-Benz, which have also pushed back their electric car plans, has been prompted largely by the companies' difficulties in making and selling enough electric cars and doing so profitably. Sales of such vehicles are still growing but the pace has slowed sharply in recent months as automakers have tapped out many of the early adopters who were willing to spend more than $50,000 on a new battery-powered car. Because they are still learning how to make the cars and their batteries at lower cost, the companies have not been able to bring out more affordable models.

Keeping AI's future open: A key to ethical and inclusive AI innovation and governance
AI offers a unique chance to meld cultures, ideas and knowledge into a unified canvas of innovation. With AI poised to inject $15.7 tn into the global economy, its role extends beyond mere economic growth to being a pivotal force of societal transformation. This potential has captured the focus of policymakers worldwide, as we witness several national laws, multilateral guidance and global summits to ensure effective regulatory oversight. However, the pace of AI innovation will surpass the speed at which new regulations can be developed. While regulatory frameworks are indispensable, they are not sufficient to navigate advancements and complex dynamics of the AI sector. A broader, more inclusive approach to governance that transcends conventional regulatory strategies is essential. This approach demands the cultivation of an AI ecosystem rooted in openness and transparency, a fertile ground where deliberation, diversity and even dissent are not just welcomed but are incentivised pathways towards achieving consensus on ethical and responsible AI training, development and deployment.

Rushing to invest in PPF before April 5? Here's why it may not be a good idea
Public Provident Fund (PPF) accounts before April 5, hoping to capitalise on the additional interest accrued from early investment. Indeed, depositing a lumpsum between April 1 and April 5 annually in a PPF account, assuming a consistent interest rate of 7.1%, yields a substantial maturity amount compared to monthly deposits of ₹12,500 over the subsequent 15 years. With monthly investments of ₹12,500 in a PPF account for 15 years at a constant interest rate of 7.1%, the total amount earned is ₹40,20,301.

Chip off the old Taiwanese block
earthquake off Taiwan's east coast on Wednesday is unfortunate. It is also an unfortunate reminder of the risk of concentrating an overwhelming proportion of the world's most advanced chip-making capacity in one territory. Taiwan's semiconductor fabrication units are located at some distance from the epicentre of the earthquake and evacuated staff in response to disaster protocols. Initial reports suggest there is unlikely to be an immediate impact on supply chains feeding all manner of things from cars and cellphones to laptops and satellites. However, chip-making is particularly susceptible to vibration, and Taiwan lies in a zone of heightened seismic activity that also poses a risk to its principal source of power: nuclear energy. Chipmakers have accelerated plans to diversify beyond Taiwan after the Covid outbreak snarled up supply lines. There is also simmering tension with China that reinforces the need for resilient supply of a critical component in global manufacturing.
