'Remarry' before Lok Sabha polls, UCC coming soon: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to Badruddin Ajmal
Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a swipe at AIUDF supremo and Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal, subtly addressing his recent comments regarding the possibility of remarriage amidst ongoing discussions on the uniform civil code (UCC). Sarma's response came after Ajmal's retort to Congress's Dhubri candidate Rakibul Hussain, who referred to Ajmal as an «old tiger.» In response, Ajmal, who is in his 70s, quipped, «I am not so old. I can marry again.» Capitalizing on the moment, Sarma indirectly referenced Ajmal's statement, highlighting the AIUDF leader's opposition to UCC. The Chief Minister announced over the weekend that Assam aims to implement UCC shortly after the current Lok Sabha elections, potentially including measures against polygamy, which could pose legal challenges for Ajmal if he proceeds with additional marriages.

Are FMCG stocks likely to make a comeback? 4 stocks with up to 22.3% upside potential
So what explains the sluggishness in stock prices of this sector? Analysts attribute this to the rising competition from regional players, slow rural market growth and inflation. But with stocks trading at reasonable valuations, rural growth set to pick up from the second half of the year and ebbing raw material prices, it may be time to reassess these companies’ prospects. FMCG firms enjoy lower cyclicality of earnings, strong cash flows, and excellent corporate governance. Usually, the broader market cycle is complete when profits peak, valuations become expensive (cyclicals and defensive valuations converge), cyclicals melt and rate cuts begin. “We might be at this juncture now. The next churn is likely to be in underperforming quality sectors—private banks, insurance and FMCG—the traditional defensives offering earnings resilience in a downturn,” states a Nuvama Institutional Equities report.

Brands latch on to Snapchat lingo with Gen Z in mind
brands in India focusing on Generation Z are increasingly including Snapchat in their advertising strategy, as they look to use the appeal of the platform’s filters and visual-first approach to nudge buyers in this age group to spend more. Although Instagram and YouTube remain the platforms of choice for mass digital advertising, Snapchat is increasingly becoming the social messaging app that brands are using to focus on Gen Z, or people in the age group of 12 to 27 years. «I see more and more brands which are targeting Gen Z utilising Snapchat in their advertising strategies, especially brands like Tira, Lakme and MamaEarth,» Srikant Rajasekharuni, CEO and co-founder of Red Matter Technologies (RMT), told ET. India has Snapchat’s largest audience. In May last year, Snapchat had said its monthly active users in the country had topped 200 million. India also leads as the country with the largest Snapchat advertising audience, ahead of the US, Pakistan, France, and the UK, according to WARC's latest platform report. «Snapchat has emerged as one of the best platforms to reach out to Gen Z in a captivating manner, not just for impressions sake but because of all their engagement tools, such as filters, which is why it is becoming more important in the media and advertising mix of brands,» Rajasekharuni said.
