Economics is becoming a popular choice at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay, surpassing several traditional engineering disciplines. Known primarily for engineering, the institute is witnessing a shift in student preferences. This year, the Economics program at IIT-Bombay opened at a higher Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) rank than disciplines such as Environmental and Civil Engineering. Shireesh Kedare, IIT-Bombay's director, noted, «Our Economics department opens a lot higher than many engineering colleges.» Data shows that after Computer Science, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, Economics and Chemical Engineering are the next most preferred courses. The BS (Economics) program gained significant interest, particularly among female students. Admission for the general category started at a rank of 1,562, with Energy Science beginning at 1,905, Civil Engineering at 2,244, Environmental Science at 3,424, and Metallurgical Engineering at 2,690. Deputy director Milind Atrey highlighted the high admission ranks for Economics students, ranging between 1,000 and 2,000, and praised their strong JEE (Advanced) scores.

Delhi High Court on Thursday pulled up Delhi University for “lack of will” to act against DUSU election contestants indulging in vandalism and defacement of public properties. The court put on hold the counting of votes for the elections that are being held on Friday, reported TOI. “This court directs that election process may proceed yet no counting of votes shall take place either on DU (Students’ Union) elections or on college elections till this court is satisfied that posters, hoardings, graffiti and spray paints are removed and public property is restored,” a bench of Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela directed after a lengthy hearing. The HC said that it would allow the DUSU elections to go ahead but halted the counting the court is satisfied that the defacement of property has been removed, including the material such as posters, hoardings and graffiti.

public health care system, the West Bengal government has directed all the Principals of the state government-run Medical Colleges & Hospitals to introduce biometric systems. Secuirty audits will be conducted and safety and security measures will be stepped up, in the wake of the RG Kar Medical rape & murder of the PGT doctor on August 9 and demands placed by the protesting doctors in the recent past. «Detailed data of the construction workers, outsourced security personnel and housekeeping staff and all data, including address, will be maintained and the biometric system should be in place. I have directed the Principals of all the medical colleges, who were present in the meeting virtually, to monitor the safety and security of the hostels as well. We had a detailed discussion on implementation of the special scheme called „Ratri Sathi“ and security audit will be done, led by former Retired IPS Surajit Purakayastha. Alarm system will be implemented,» Banerjee said after holding the meeting with all the medical colleges and hospitals across the state. She said the Principals and HODs of 33 medical colleges expressed their opinions in the meeting. The old Patient Welfare committee has been dismantled, Banerjee said, adding «All the Principals will become the chairman. MSVP will be a member of the Committee. One junior doctor, a senior doctor, and a nurse will also be represented in the Committee.»
